Why is this can so expensive?

Dude. You think $400 for an exhaust is expensive? You don't want to get the exhaust systems for any sportbike then, or heck, even my single cylinder DR-Z400. The Yoshimura Ti full system will run you upwards of $700 for my bike, and for sport bikes I think you can easily find systems that are over a grand. The GS is blessed with cheap exhausts.
Yea... the Yosh and then the M4 I had on my TLR cost $1000+ each.
But the ratio of exhaust price to bike value is probably similar.
No not what Im saying. Yes 1k+ is alot. I wanted to know why a used beat up can could be worth more than a new system? Is there somthing special about the Whileyco to warrent such a price? Or is the seller a moron? :dunno_white:
You could probally have someone make you a system from scratch for less than that. Just depends on what you want.
That price is high. Look for a 3 bolt can, and fabricate a flange. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for a can to put on the GS.

No. Just becauase someone is asking a price does not mean that it is worth it. The seller is not a moron, just the person willing to pay for it.

The seller is a complete moron. He parted that bike out like 5 months ago and is still trying to sell that beat up old faded can for WAY too much. I got my (almost) new Wileyco CF can for $50 off eBay with new hardware. You'd be better off buying one of the new ones listed with a buddy, or keep waiting until a used or scratch/dent one shows up. Patience is key!
Oh, and I LOVE my Wileyco can! :icon_razz:

I'd get the Jardine, been looking at it for my wifes bike. That complete exhaust is $130 less than just the bolt on Jardine can on my bike. A nice full Ti Arata or Arrow system is between $900 and $1200 bucks. Stainless systems can be had for around 600 but the OEM Ti on our bikes usually already works really well and unless we are in the quest for that final 1 to 2 peak HP for Racing a slip on works damn good. I picked up 5hp at the rear wheel w/out a power commander and a map just changing my can.

So when mine cracked, I got the Jardine system, K&N, and Factory stage 3 kit for 66% of the cost of a stock exhaust.

I think you can pay as much as you want to pay for pipes, especially on a bike like the GS500. My newish Wileyco CF (for a GSXR600) can + midpipe + finishing and installation cost me a grand total of $100. I took a really long hard look at the Jardine RT-1 system though, still might get it one day. For the money, that Jardine system looks hard to beat! Unless of course, you can find one of those old Yoshi systems! :cheers:
Thats one thing I love about small bikes, so much can be done for so cheap, as long as you have realistic expectations.

A full pipe will flow better. However it is made of shittier than the stock material and will rust before your very eyes, it also gets in the way of swapping oil filter etc. Finally ... if your bike isn't flowed and ported, you'd almost not even know a pipe from a muffler if its a nice open flow muffler.
So ... I'd do what is cheaper and better knowing fully well ... its all a compromise. Street is where you'd not want it to rust, not need the extra hassles when oil change, and heck the slightly lower peak flow rate, never even make a difference.
