Title: f%$k Atlanta Roads
Post by: NiceGuysFinishLast on March 10, 2007, 12:10:08 AM
Seriously. Cruising along a street tonight, been down it 100s of times, going to a party. Cruising, probably 40mph or so, in a 35... I see a paint line, I slow down just a tad.. only to find that the paint line is hiding a bump of about 4 inches or so, where they're resurfacing the asphalt. Hit that, about shaZam! myself, and before I have time to think about it, I hit two more in rapid succession. I thought I popped both tires. Nope, I got lucky on that one. But it blew both of my brand new fork seals. Oil all down the forks, front sits SUPER low now, almost no rebound left in the forks. Figures. I think one of the forks was leaking slightly beforehand(I already rebuilt them both once), so I was planning on replacing them with the set I'm gonna buy from SRADKNEEDRAGGER. I can't afford those until I get paid though (2 weeks from today).. so for now, I have to ride back and forth from work with zero fork oil. Before you guys tell me "That's bad for the springs" or "That's dangerous and will affect the handling of the bike negatively", Yes, I know. However, there is nothing I can do about it. I have $30 to last for food and gas (mostly gas, thank God for that 45+mpg, since I have a 40 mile commute each day) until I get paid. So I absolutely cannot get the new forks. So I have to make do.

Also, a big  :thumb: to cool cops. I took a friend home, because she was too inebriated (IMHO) to drive, so I refused to let her. She refused to wear the helmet, but took the jacket and gloves. So of course, 2 blocks from her house, I'm stopped next to a club, and the cop outside checking IDs pulls me over (Pointed at me and then did the "come here" finger) and told me I couldn't ride without a helmet for both passengers. I explained the situation, and he was cool, he let me park in the parking lot for the club (without paying the stupid parking fee) and walk her back to her apartment. Before you tell me "You shouldn't let her on the back without proper gear, and even if you put her on the back, then YOU wouldn't have proper gear, and that's dangerous"... I know. But she was either going to ride back without a helmet, or drive back inebriated. I chose the (IMHO) the lesser of two evils.

It's now 2:09 AM, I told myself I'd be in bed by midnight, I have work at 9AM... I've put in about 50 hours this week, and I started on Tuesday. But at least I'm finally making money.

How's everyone else's life?

Oh yeah, and for those who would ask.. She was VERY cute.. but probably not interested..

Not sure how things are done on your side of the pond but is it possible you could contact the local gov. department about the damage caused to your bike due to the poor condition of the road.

All you need is a slightly more positive attitude & she might be.

If you can spare it, consider getting some cheap 20 weight (i.e. 10W20) motor oil in the interim.  It's not the best for fork applications, but it's much better and safer than bouncing down the road.

I object to this being moved to the TF.  I provided perfectly good advice, as did everyone else... err... wait....

Wrap those fork legs with socks, and ziptie them, to keep the fork oil off the tire and brake.
