Title: Brake calipers
Post by: bubba zanetti on March 13, 2007, 12:05:16 AM
I know that front brake calipers are different from '96 on, but are the mounting position & rotors any different?

The reason is I got a set of front brake pads for a '96 model on & I might see if I can get a front caliper from one of these bikes.  :dunno_white:

I know the rotors are all the same (except color). I have not heard of any differences in the mounts of the calipers. Plenty of people have posted about replacing forks and something like that would have come up.

Thanks, I didn't think that there'd be a difference in mounting.

I'm guessing that there's no difference in braking power between the two different calipers.

I thought the 96+ caliper was bigger and 4 pot.

Looking in my manual thay are both 2 pot but the 96+ has bigger pistons and pads. So it will stop better.

The forks never changed, and the rotors never changed so the new caliper should bolt up and work. I'm sure the new caliper isn't any worse than the old otherwise they wouldn't have switched it out  :dunno_white: but I doubt that there's much difference.

I wouldn't bother swapping them out unless you're having problems with your current one, or you find a newer caliper really cheap.
