Title: Shock Racing LED Short Stalks
Post by: Onlypastrana199 on March 13, 2007, 01:05:47 PM
I'm thinking about swapping my scratched up messed up turn signals with new ones...shorter stalked...not so retarded looking ones...specifically  These from Shock Racing  (http://www.newenoughhp.com/parts/turn_signals_and_led's/shock_racing/superlite_led_motorcycle_turn_signals.html) My concern is that they won't be bright/visible enough. Though they do have 36 LEDs per signal.  I did a couple quick searches and couldn't find anyone on here that had these...did someone do this mod and not do a write up?  :nono: My friend Nate has this brand on his SV..but he's currently..umm...drunk cause its his birthday...

I had these on my Speed Four and let me tell you, these are the brightest lights you will ever see as turn signals.  They're not street legal because they're pracitcally blinding.  I'm going to look for pics, but seriously, they're expensive, but you will never go unnoticed at dusk/night, amazing lights.

This doesn't come even close to showing you how bright they are, but that's with my brake light on, not just the running light, they're crazy.  IMO, the best upgrade you can do in terms of visibility.

$40/each?   :o  Oh...  $40/pair...  Phew...

Illegal?  How so "Doug" SmartDrug?  I've never read a law that states the brightness is limited.......  I mean...  Non-DOT is technically illegal, but so was cutting my rear fender.   :dunno_white:

awesome...I'm totally getting them now...those are which pair though? Type 6? Meaning those are the ones with 18 LEDs????? The 36 LEDs in that case would be like  :o bright??? Maybe I don't need that pair then

My father has the Mini 3 on his FZ1 and they are plenty bright in the day time, and even more so at night.

I don't have the shock racing ones, but mine are 18 LED's per signal and they're plenty bright during the brightest of days.  definitely brighter then stock (and way faster reacting too - not necessarily referring to the actual blink rate, which is dictated by the relay).

remember LED's are directional and are most intense straight on - the more the angle the less intense (ie - perpendicular to the tip is not as bright as perpendicular with a halogen bulb).  just keep that in mind when aiming them - set them up so that with you on the bike, most cages and other bikes behind or in front of you, are getting as straight on a view to the tip as possible.  the range is big enough that you'd have to set them up at a pretty big angle to loose serious intensity, but just thought I'd mention anyway for when your fiddling with them, to get the most intense light.

LED's are great - the only halogen bulbs left on my bike are the headlights, so the extra headlight bulb i'm running ain't no thing to the GS's humble electrical output.

good luck - you'll like them  :thumb:

I was embellishing slightly, they're non- dot approved, I'm not sure if that's due to the light dispersal or not, but blessed bloody hell are they bright.  I got the biggest ones they sell but I'm not sure about the 18 LED ones.
