Title: Another carb question
Post by: nuemerik on March 15, 2007, 04:10:18 PM
So I got myself another set of carbs yesterday.  I got them cleaned out and put back together.  Went out today and put them back on the bike.  All that went fine.  I went to start the bike and it wouldn't start.  After about 5 minutes or so she finally came to life.  She sounded good so I let the bike idle for a few more minutes while I put the tools away.  I came back and gave her a bit of throttle.  She sounded good and there was no throttle lag like there had been.  When I tried to let it idle by itself again it just died. I tried again and it started right up but would not idle by itself.  After a few more tries of this I noticed a small backfiring noise coming from the exhaust. ( not loud, but like a pinging sound after 3.5k rpm )  No smoke or anything.  No strong fuel smell.  Now I'm not sure what to do.  I need to get a plug pulling tool so I can inspect those.  Do you guys have any suggestions?

18mm deepwell socket to get the sparkplugs out.

Try turning your idle screw in.  Picture available by searching "idle screw picture" with username "Kerry".

Did you turn the choke off, after a minute of warm up?
