Hey,
Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding whether to subscribe to a service or go with your insurance carrier in regards to having your bike towed??? (MTS, AAA) vs. (roadside via insurance) Thanks.

AAA doesnt include motorcycle towing in their plans. I have the PLUS membership & that's what they told me over the phone.
All I've heard is AMA, but costwise it might be cheaper to keep a tow # in your wallet.
The best thing to do is find a friend with a truck.
This is pretty easy in Texas.
This is what I was checking out.

100 bucks for the year and they will cover you up to 300 bucks for the tow. ?? Sounds nice.
Most larger tow companies will have a roll back. If you break down, just ask that they send a roll back. Or call a local bike shop they wont charge you much to come pick it up esp. if you let them fix it. Why pay $100 a year to cover "if" your bike breaks down?
I had AAA for years until 3 times in a row when I needed help it took over 3-4 hours for a truck to arrive. One time they never ever came, After waiting 6 hours on the side of a highway I had to call another company for help ??? :2guns: that isnt worth the $50 a year. AAA said.. We are very sorry but there is nothing we can do :flipoff:
I would just call a local Co in the event you need them. Or... rent a pick up from enterprize for $49. and ramp it in :thumb:

Having friends with trucks is nice, I've used a friends and my own twice when the motorcycle wouldn't move (hit by car and broken groundwire)
If your insurance offers roadside assistance, I think it's usually a lot cheaper to add on than buying some separate AAA type thing. I don't have anything for my bike, but I do have roadside assistance added to my truck insurance for a few bucks every 6 months...
I would normally agree but in order to get roadside through insurance companies they require both Comp and Collision which shoot the insurance up by a ton.
My choice is: Go full insurance and pay 80 bucks a month year round.
Or: Pay just basic insurance coverage at 22 bucks a month and a yearly fee of 100 dollars from a towing service
But if the services are as unreliable as you say, maybe its not worthit.
I just know that when i crashed my ex500 and got stuck with 400 dollar tow bill ...well you can imagine. Although it still ran... :thumb:
And eventually had to abandon the ex500 on the side of a highway because i knew i did not have the cash to pay for a tow from CT to NYC
Progressive Insurance offers Roadside Assistance as an adder to a policy. I have have it, and so far it's working -- have never had the need to use it (knock on wood).
Funny I have Progressive but they require me to have Comp And Collision in order to get roadside. Different States maybe???
The AMA motow isn't THAT bad...you have to pay for membership + the yearly fee for MoTow but if you are already a member or want to become a member then its definitely worth it.
the proper way to tow a bike,is to get on it and hold onto the door handle of the car doing the towing till ya get home. im sorry but thats how we did it in the olden days. i have no idea what the topic is. see y'all.
