Title: Michelin Pilot Activ tires !!!
Post by: FearedGS500 on March 28, 2007, 10:27:24 AM
all i can say is WOW i just put a set on my bike and man .. talk about glue and traction ! when i just move and put more weight on my left or ride side the bike just tends to dart that way ( not in a way it would harm me )  and man when you go to take a corner you better be ready . these tires will comment and stick its line . i have not had a chance to test them all the way out yet ( still not done with my 100 mile break in )  but let me tell you .. i'm in love ...... kinda like i was with my yokohama's i put on my car for the first time :)  think i found my new tire !

They are the improved replacement of the Macadam. Nice to see other options in a modern tire.

Neither have I. All the reviews have been positive and very kind to them. All the Michelin motorcycle tires I have used have been great. I may try them on my g/f's bike next time.

Hi there,
I have the Michelin Macadams on my 1991 GS500 and I have written glowing comments about them for more than a year.
They are fabulous.
I'll be buying another set of Michelins when these are worn out -- and if the Macadams are phased out it looks like Pilot Activs might be the best choice at that time.
Best wishes,
Todd

i was looking at getting these tires too eventually. Anyone have a report on the tread life on these? I like to get something that lasts for a decent amount of time.

Hey feared, you done a MPG test on them yet?

I have the Michelin Pilot Activ tires on my GS, for about 4000KM.
And I'm pleased whit them, the only bad thing i have to say about them, It's alot of time  for front tire to warm up.

That is common with Michelin mtc tires, includiing slicks.

I just got myself a pair of Pilot Activs in stock sizes for my GS  :icon_mrgreen:

The front 110/70/17 weighs 4.5kg

The rear 130/70/17 weighs 6kg

I'll fit them over the next few days, so expect a full report.

lazarus, arise !

Those might be something for my gs this year. Any of you have a long-term update, since you've had some time on them now ?

Ditto.
Got them a few days ago, I'm still in break-in phase (70 kms on them so far). :thumb:

Can anybody do a back to back comparison of the Activ's Vs. Sport Demons?

I took the Pilot Activs for their first ride today and so far so good.

The radius of the tyre allows for nice progressive roll into corners.

Once I do a few more k's on them to scrub them in, I'll let you know more, but so far so good.

Once the greasiness of the new tyres was scrubbed of, these tyres have done nothing but bring a smile to my face.  :icon_mrgreen:

Very very sticky, very predictable in cornering. I'm finding I can take a sharper line into corners with these tyres compared to the BT-45's and they give reassuring feedback throughout.

It feels like a new level of drive ability has been given to the bike.

I'll give more feedback as I ride them through their lifespan. But so far, three thumbs up!

I think I can give a feedback about my Pilot Activ's, too.
Especially now, after 700-something kms and the break-in period is long gone.
I went for a nice ride (riding season inauguration :icon_mrgreen:) yesterday with a friend of mine, 180 kms through the hills, twisty roads and to the seaside.
My new rubbers kept up very well, I'm overall satisfied and would recommend them so far.
We rode through a couple mountain passes, we even found fog on top :o and the roads leading there were kinda wet, but I always felt confident with my bike. Great improvement with respect to my hard old tyres. :thumb:

PS:
Countersteering is your friend. :icon_mrgreen:

New update.
Yesterday I had the chance to test ride my 2600 km (1600 mi) old Pilot Activs in the rain that caught me. :icon_rolleyes:
Very good indeed. :icon_mrgreen:
I rode at a reduced speed of course (90 km/h - 55 mph max), but in no moment I could feel my tyres slide, even though the road was soaking wet. :thumb:
Good stability, firm grip. :thumb:

Side note: I made it home nice and dry except for my feet (minor problem), my Sidi rainsuit + gloves cover handled it excellently. :thumb:
