Hey guys,
As you kow I put drag bars on my bike. Got them from AZ motorsports. Well they vibrate a lot. I have barend mirrors that have a bit of heft to them so I can't use the barend weights. I ordered a bar snake and installed that. But I am still feeling a lot of vibes in the handlebars. In fact my hands are sore from my ride home from work - about an hours ride.
What else can I do to lessen the feel of the vibes...make my hands more comfy, etc? I was thinking of gel gloves and or new grips. Or is my problem based on the fact that I bought a cheap bar and this is what happens?
Thanks!
i can't testify to the quality of your bar, but thicker grips and gel gloves certainly wouldn't hurt. i notice my hands getting a bit more tired since i installed my s-m bars, mostly because mroe weight's on them. i'm thinking about getting some new gloves as well. i'd love to help you more, but you realize your title is in reference to the Beach Boys.... for shame. :nana:
LOL....
zara's right-grips and gloves will help some. Try the Katana grips? Also may have to do with cheap bars...flanders are more expensive but may be worth it...try this- Also make sure you're not gripping the bars too tightly. Very light grip should do it.
And Z-if your hands are hurting from the s-m bars try holding your body weight with your knees pressed against the tank often while you ride. First ride I took with s-m bars hurt my hands and wrists for days after-but once I realized how much weight I was putting on the bars and got my back and knees holding up my bodyweight it helped lots. I don't get any pain or discomfort anymore at all.
I try real hard to not grip too tight as well as not lean to much on the bars. In fact I can get quite comfy, but I may still be gripping to tight as well...I also thimk I may need to lube the clutch cable and brake too. What do you use for that? Any particular lube better than others? And how exactly do you do this? (A good sign I need to do since I never have! :o )
Pablo where did you get your Kat grips again? Do you know how much they are new? I will look 'em up!
Thanks...
Pablo does not actually have Kat grips. He is just relaying what Srinrath has tried. I would try junk yards if you want a good price.
I got the same drag bars and my story is just like Pablo's. Once you get the hang of holding your weight with your knees the wrist pain will go away. It took several trips before I learned to give up my death grip. Now after an hour or two in the twisties and my wrists are fine.
Do you know of any decent aftermarket grips that will fit? I sliced off my stock grips and tried some progrip gel ones... well things just don't fit nicely :( (like over the throttle especially)
At least I replaced the nasty purple bar ends that the previous owner had installed... someday the nasty purple side panel stickers will go too!
I put LP PRO GRIP 780 ROAD RACE COMPOUND (http://www.lockhartphillipsusa.com/pages/product-sub3.asp?id=119) grips on when I did the heated grips and they are great. The $8 that I spent at the Triumph shop was worth it. They aren't totally easy to find, but call around. I spent two days looking online and calling folks for stock (even called LP who told me they were on backorder), I then called the shop 1/2 of a block from work and they had them (d'oh).
They are soft, so if you put the miles on like I do you will need to replace every season or so. Just like a good pair of running shoes.
.....or you can make a date to walk the yards with Srinath to find a Kat ;)
