I've got a local shop working with me to try and swap in a newer ('05-'06) shock into the GS instead of the '95 GSXR750 shock that needs a rebuild as they are low on staff time before my track day on the 8th. Any opinions on what shock will be closest to spring rate/valving for a swap from these year bikes? I'm 190lbs and ride hard so I would go on the stiffer side rather than softer.
Thanks in advance!
Rear shock spring rates are intresting, and most likely a newer gixxer shock has too soft of a spring rate. People forgot that even though the GS is a "small" bike, it is longer and heavier than a GSXR1000
I have used the Katana 600 shock and it good, stiffer than stock and has compression dampning
What will fit will depend on how much work you want to do, or have time for. I have installed a 04 gix6 and 02 gix6 shock. The 04 actually feels stiffer. Note that both of these have new upper mounts to accomodate the longer shock. You will need a GSXR lower linkage for the shocks with the larger diameter springs, helps to clear the swingarm. I cannot recall all the years but 96-99 gix750 and 97-00 gix6 have the shorter linkage.
I have not updated my spring rate list in a while but it still may be helpful.
