Title: Suburban Machinery SV650 Type 2 handlebars on an "06 GS500F
Post by: PMac on March 30, 2007, 07:08:27 PM
Hey, I know there have been past posts about this topic, but they're from a while ago so I don't know if the Type 2 bars I'm looking at purchasing are the same as the ones previously discussed. I've heard that these are really good bars and make the bike handle and feel that much better and sportier. EXACTLY what I want. I'm just curious if anyone who has done this swap with the stocks has had any clearance issues with these bars and an "F." If so, how did you resolve these problems. Please someone help me decide what to do!! haha

I have the SM2 Bars on my 500F and the only thing i had to do to insure that there was no interference was rotate the front brake reservoir just a bit so that it missed the tach housing at full lock  just like melloGS said. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow to show how everything fits.

That would be great if you could upload some pics of what you did. So by rotating the reservoir, does that mean that the brake lever is also rotated forward?

Yes.

The Type 2 bars have not changed. Why change a design that works?

From the Suburban-Machinery website (http://www.suburban-machinery.com/GS500F.htm)
QuoteThis is the SV650 type two handlebar installed on a GS500F.

The brake lever / master cylinder is rotated down to clear the instrumants.

Order the Type 1 or 2 HB from the SV650 page.

and...

Holy crap it's the Wiki!

Correct me if I'm wrong. The Type 1 SM bars do not fit on the GS500F. Only the Type 2 bars work on an F model. Yet in the wiki link, it says that the F, which is an 05, has the Type 1 bars on it. Is it possible to put the Type 1s on or should I stick with the SM2s?? Thanks guys.

Well, you saw the pictures of the Type 1s on the 2005 F model in the Wiki link, yes? So it must work, right?
