Title: K&N Cone Filter
Post by: rraiderr on March 31, 2007, 01:34:35 PM
Can I remove the entire air box and install K&N round or cone filters directly onto the carbs?

If so what is carb inlet size where the filter connect direcltey to the carb? K&N lists many different inlet sizes and with my bad luck I will get the wrong one.

If this is possible  is their any negative side effects?

Also would I need to re-jet? If so what size jets do you recommend.

1999 GS500E stock motor and pipe.

Thanks for the help in advance.

K&N and a couple of other knock off brands make pods.  Not sure about the size,  best bet go out and measure it from top to bottom.  You will definitely need to re-jet.  Also I'm not sure I'd worry about going to pods or a lunchbox  ( K&N  part RU-2970)  If you aren't going to an aftermarket pipe also.  check out the Wiki  there's a rejetting matrix that shows you what size mains and pilots you will need according to your filter and eshaust.
