I've got a few scratches.. on my tank, swingarm, and wheels. I occasionally get caught in the rain. Do I need to worry about rust developing?
What's the best way to prevent rust from developing?
IF you have a GS, you have to worry about rust. Actually, don't worry about it. Just accept it and you'll be much happier. :icon_mrgreen:
I don't know about the SV. Since it's the next level up from the GS, I wouldn't expect much better.
you have to look at the big picture
in 60 years the rust will have penetrated all the way through the metal and on an item like the swing arm it will have snapped
In 10years it'll just look really bad...
To prevent rust (oxidized metal) you have to get the paint off, all around the rusted area, sand it down to bare metal, then re-paint it following the paint with a good coat of wax...There are also enamels that are blended to use in high rust situations (floor boards of old cars etc..) I just used rust-olem's brand flat black on my frame and just after the paint dried (not hardned) I rub it by accident against the basment wall. to my suprise it didn't take the pain right off....so it sticks real good and was/already worth the $10.89/qt
