Can anybody provide me with the steps involved on removing my front wheel and axel? I have to take it off so I can have my new tire mounted.
Put bike up on center stand and prop it back by putting a 2x4 or something under the front of the frame. Remove screw holding on odometer cable on the left. Remove cotter pin on the right. Loosen axle nut. Loosen axle clamp bolt on the front right. Remove axle nut and axle.
You don't have to mess with the brakes, just don't squeeze the lever with no wheel on. Also keep track of the axle spacer. I've only done this twice, so somebody correct me if I missed something.
you got i right on. just be carful when putting it back on i did this twice once when i recked the front end and when i put it on the first time the tire was off center so i fixed it. the second time is when i got it back from the shop that fixed my bent forks the put the tire on off center and forgot the cotter pin so i took it off again and put it back on. just be carful when putting it back on not to over tighten the axle nut and watch where the spacer go cause if your not carefull your wheel might come out off center. good luck

Jam a wooden wedge or some thick cardboard between your brakepads while the wheel is off. Its not unknown for them to close up under the weight of the fluid in the pipe and the reservoir. Its not the end of the world if they do but seperating them again is a PITA.

Thanks for saying that, I wouldn't even have thought to keep the pads separated. And knowing me, I probably would have squezed the brake lever. Thanks again.
I squeezed the brake lever the first time I took the wheel off... I even had a piece of cardboard in the caliper.. buuuuuuuuut.. it fell out, and I didn't notice.. boy, did I feel stupid..
I have a couple of small pieces of 1/4" plywood (lauan to be exact) that I use in the calipers.....that is when my dog does not get hold of them and chew 'em up.
:laugh: I like hearing all these stories. I know if you guys hadn't warned me, I would've done the same thing.

I warn myself and I still do the same thing from time to time. Usually only when I working on the bike and drinking beer. Funny how things never get fixed quickly when I'm wrenching and drinking beer. Good luck! :cheers:
Thanks for the instructions, I just got the wheel off. Now I just gotta get the tire mounted then hopefully I can get it back on as easily as it came off.
don't fret if you squeeze the lever, you'll just have to work the piston caliber backwards....
