Hello just signed up today and bought a 93 gs500 last week. what grade of gas is everyone useing and what is torque specs on front&rear axels? I droped my wheels off today to get new tires.thanks
The bike uses 87 octane (that's North American octane rating).
Front axle nut: 26-38 ft-lb with cotter pin, 29-42 ft-lb with self locking nut
Rear axle nut: 36-59 ft-lb with cotter pin, 44-70 ft-lb with self locking nut.
Thanks alot Egaeus that helps alot. when I filled up the other day I used 93 just to be safe. I also ride a 03 buell and it takes 93 just didn't to put wrong gas in.

Holy crap, that's a big dfference between a GS500 and a Buell XB9! Do you have the City X? I was very interested in the '03 XB9 "low" version... also the XB12scg... GORGEOUS bikes. But cash flow and wanting to start back riding a bit smaller bike I got my GS.
Johnny5 mine is 03xb9s "low".I had some major engine problems and didnt want to be with out a bike to ride while the buell was in shop. and found this one and the price was right!I haven't had a chance to ride it much as it needed tires. Got them yesterday and fixin to to put them on in a few min.

Engine problems, ah bummer... I was hearing that their reliability has gotten much better over the last couple of years.... That's to bad.
Should be a pretty big difference in feel between the 2 bikes. I'm going to go to the local dealer when they have their test drive day, I've been itching to try out that XB12scg. Anyway, the GS500 is a killer little bike, I use 87 octane with no worries, and I seem to be averaging about 50 MPG.
johnny5 if intrested in Buell go to Badweatherbikers.com. best buell forum on the net.
I got time to take the GS out today and ride.Got some new tires on it BT-45s . Boy what a diffrence ! I rode about 50 miles hit a couple of local twistys and had a ball.i am haveing to relearn how to ride compared to my Buell but for the money this bike is great.Lots of fun!
