I like growing peppers and I always thought this would make a badass contest...but people HAVE be willing to submit themselves to stuff bordering torture to do it right...oh and they have to have a video camera capable of filming for 5 minutes.
I've got four varieties of pepper.
Hybrid cerano
Habanero
Red Savina
Naga Jolokia
The ceranos I'm growing average 95,000 units on the Scovile Scale. They're very hot for ceranos, but they're nice and sweat.
My habaneros I've been growing a bit mild. They're running about 285,000 units on the scovile scale which is extremely hot, make no istake, but mild compared to a lot of varieties of the pepper.
The Red Savina is a monster. It registers about 500,000 and can do things like cause blindness if you get it in your eyes. It's insane.
The Naga Jolokia is by far the hottest pepper in the world. I have no idea what mine register at but the species ranges between 900,000 and 1,350,000 units on the scale.
For reference, the substance in peppers that tweaks the brain and makes them "hot" is called capsaicin and pure capsaicin is roughly 16,000,000 units. Jalapenos are about 3000 on that scale.
The rules would be:
All peppers will have to be chewed 10 times and you will have to open your mouth and show the result of chewing within 20 seconds of popping it in. Time starts as soon as you put the pepper in your mouth.
However many people want to enter give a dollar to get in and I send them all a cerano. On camera, they eat the cerano without anything to drink, eat with it, whatever...they just have to sit there, for five minutes, no throwing up or spitting or anything. Whoever makes it five minutes moves on. This is mostly to weed out the real wussies.
Whoever makes it through gets a habanero...which for those of you who would like to make several attempts they can buy more habaneros from the grocery store...I don't care. Same rules, same time limit. Habaneros are tough, though...i grew up eating peppers and I think this is tough.
Whoever makes it through the habanero gets a red a red savina...and only one chance. You won't find these at the grocery store as they aren't really considered edible due to the capsaicin content. Only two minutes for this pepper, though, but believe me it will be a very, very long two minutes.
Whoever makes it through the Savina gets a Naga Jolokia. I've never eaten a Naga Jolokia so I have no idea what to expect...I don't even know how to comprehend "twice as hot as a Red Savina". This is my first year growing them. But I figure it's worth tossing in there. I'll say only a minute, though, because, like I said, I can't even imagine how hot this will be.
Whoever makes it through the Jolokia gets the pot...more than one makes it, it's split.
It'll be like a month between stages, though, because my Savinas have just sprouted and my Jolokias aren't even here yet.
I would like to point out to those who think "why would they do that" that casaicin has basically the same effect on the brain as weed. The more you take in, the better the "high". Any stoner who's ever eaten a habanero or two will confirm this. A Savina makes you float for like an hour after the burn goes away....it's great...
Who's in?
dude im so in cept for one problem, no video camera atm. btw on the shu scale where does pepperspray rate?
Top notch police grade stuff is 530,000...that's the strongest stuff you can find. The stuff available to the public is 200,000.

Just use your webcam darling... the picture is great late at night... ;) :icon_twisted:
I've had Mad Dog 351 which is 351K on the scoville scale. It was hot. Really hot. And I'm talking just a drop from a toothpick.
I've also had Satan's Blood (http://hotsaucecatalog.stores.yahoo.net/hs1155sb.html) which is 800K. I put a drop in chili and it wasn't edible to me.
I'm OUT, without hesitation.

Hey Mak,
Besides the pepper eating contest, what would you use the Naga Jolokia for? From what you describe it would be way to hot for use in food. And I would guess the high from the capsaicin probably wouldn't be worth the suffering you would have to go through to get it. So what do you do with them? Just wondering.

Blair's 16 Million Reserve (16M on the Scoville Scale)
That's as hot as it gets....Why would anyone do it? :cookoo:

Probably used in cooking massive vats of chilli or other food. One drop flavors 55 gallons!
OK what does the Loser Have to Do? I'm not In because Jalapeno's in a Jar is too hot for me.
OK I vote that the loser has to carry the Uneaten Pepper in His/Her Buttcrack for 20 Minutes. :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: Oh yeah and try to dance the Funky Chicken. :o :o

Good point! I never thought of that. :thumb:
I find jalapeno to be I dunno like beans (When growing up it used to be the tamil word for Okra) ... but I cant take much habanero. I guess at the serrano stage ... I'll be happy, but cant quite cross into the habanero stage.
However they is a way to cheat, and I wont cheat so I am like backing off the contest ... but there is a way to cheat yourself into atleast 1 higher category ... and maybe even 2 ... so a easy habanero could be an easy Savina and maybe a Jolokia with lucK ...
Cool.
Srinath.
I had one single drop of Dave's Insanity Sauce on a dorrito and spend the next 30 minutes doubled over and drooling.
I tried to make poppers out of habanero's. I couldn't even choke down the breading. Too hot. I'm out.
There are actually a few ways to cheat on this. However, I will refrain also because of this and the fact that I really like to taste my food.
haha of course you can cheat...like with using orajel...but I guruntee you orajel won't last as long as a red savina.
and after your done in maks hell :icon_mrgreen:, drink milk, plenty of it. trust me water and or beer wont knock that hell out easily. milk helps :thumb:
What is Pepper Spray?
Pepper spray, oleoresin capsicum (OC), is a natural substance derived from the oily resins found in cayenne and other varieties of pepper. Contact with OC in a sprayed mist induces an immediate and intense burning sensation of the skin but especially impacts the eyes causing them to slam shut, burn, tear, swell. Also, the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, and sinuses burn, swell and make breathing difficult. In fact, even though tear gas is fairly nasty, it does not have the same inflammation and swelling effects of OC. Plus OC will not degrade over time like tear gas. People under the influence of drugs or who are otherwise oblivious to pain may be able to keep their eyes open when sprayed with tear gas but not so with OC. When sprayed in the eyes, the eyes will involuntarily slam shut whether they feel pain or not. This temporary blindness causes fear and disorientation allowing you to escape and get help.

FOX LABS Pepper Spray Formulation:
This new formulation provides the most intense impact of any pepper spray on the market while also being the safest. The extremely high Scoville Heat Unit(SHU) rating of Fox Labs OC products simply makes it even more effective. Many highly effective pepper spray products are rated at 1 million to 2 million SHU. Compare this to an OC of 5.3 million SHU used in Fox Lab products and you are comparing a paper match(about 451 degrees F) to a blue-hot blowtorch (about 2000 degrees F) flame. Another distinct advantage of the Fox Labs formulation is the more highly purified concentration vs the others. OC is made from an oily slurry of ground-up peppers. The inert(non OC) solids in the slurry Fox Labs uses are removed. This refinement process leaves only the heat(OC), color, and oil. This translucent red liquid is 2 to 4 times more potent than the next hottest brand. If you only have a half ounce of liquid to use, wouldn't you rather have the stuff that's 4 times hotter?
What burns hotter and cleaner, crude oil or high octane gasoline? Fox Labs OC products have more of the good stuff. This purity results in faster, more reliable and consistent effects.
The propellant used in Fox Labs products is non-flammable and pharmaceutical grade. Let the thousands of law enforcement and military agencies be your guide since they are experts at effectiveness without causing permanent damage (and lawsuits).
Pepper Spray Q and A
Q. Won't 5.2 MM SHU cause physical damage?
A. No, This pepper spay is a more purified form of the OC used elsewhere. There are no added ingredients that would cause damage. The OC which is the active ingredient is just more refined with less"junk" in it than the others.Because it is so pure it is more effective yet easier to remove after exposure than the other types. It is allowed to be sold in Michigan.

Q. Why are your prices higher than other pepper sprays?
A. Our prices are higher than some pepper sprays you find on auction sites, etc. But, you get what you pay for. The refinement process is more intense and requires more time and expense and produces less usable product than the other types of pepper spray. Also, Fox Labs products are used by military and law enforcement agencies across the USA. These agencies would not use a product that would cause physical damage, or not be effective. Remember, many military and law enforcement agencies require that their own personnel be subjected to pepper sprays and stun guns to be more effective in carrying out their own duties. When your life depends on the product being effective, isn't it worth a small extra expense to ensure your safety and maybe save your life or that of a loved one?
Q. Can I take pepper spray on an airplane? A. No, you cannot carry any pepper spray or stun gun on an airplane or in carry-on luggage. You can, however take a can (up to 4 oz.) in your checked baggage.
I've eaten home-grown regular Habaneros whole. Well, I chewed it first. It was pretty intense, but nothing like hot sauces made with capsacin extracts. Nature can't even get close to some of those.
i seen this posting and i wanted to share this. i worked with this guy and he always say his hot sauce was real hot. make a long story short, he made a bet with me that i couldn't drink a cap full. i couldn't drink or eat for a full min. before long more guys came in the lunch room and wanted to bet to. it was up to $50.00. so i did it and when it was all done,i was crying big time and i had to go home.so after that i didn't talk about his hot sauce.

I have personally seen a guy get doused (hosed really) with police pepper spray for several minutes and still keep two cops with batons at bay. They'd spray him down on his face, he kept wiping it off, gasping air in, and blinking his eyes real big and kept fighting them off. They were hitting him hard in the legs and arms too with the batons but he was on crack I think. Then when 2 more cops showed up, he rushed the biggest one and knocked him down, broke his nose. Eventually they gang rushed, piled on, and hogtied him.
I went over to the crackhead and was like "Wow man that was crazy I've never seen anyone fight like that."
The cops went into the hotel where I worked and complained about me.
:icon_mrgreen:
Local wing place here douses their hottest wings in pepper spray. Your eyes start to water when they set them down on the table. They just burn - no taste whatsoever.
Conversely, I used to grow Thai Sun peppers - they were fantastic. Especially after leaving 4-5 to steep in a small bottle of Stoli for a few months. Brought that to a party (sans peppers of course) ... people were rather annoyed but it tasted so good.
2 years ago I would have been in... I stopped eating spicy food 'cause my gut couldn't take it any more... And now my mouth can't take it either.
The spiciest stuff I've had was "The Man" from Dixie's BBQ (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Dixie%27s+BBQ+Seattle&spell=1) in Bellevue... I could eat it straight for a while... But, now I can't even smell it. :icon_confused:
If anyone in the Seattle Area wants to be filmed eating a super hot pepper, I have a nice Vid camera... So, just let me know. :icon_mrgreen:
What? Nobody up for Dancing the Funky Chicken with a Hot Pepper in their Crack. :dunno_white:
I'd enter but I'm too much of a kitty cat. :icon_mrgreen:
How many suckers contestants have you got Mak?
hgey bubba send me some vegemite. well have us a contest along with the peppers btw i use pepperspray on my wings, they wtfpwn anythign, course i douse em in pepperspray, let them soak in, then deepfry, then douse again :icon_twisted: i want that 16 million, stuff, but im not paying 300 for hotshit. i am looking at ordering some naga jolokias tho
Orajel ... not heard of that one ... the trick I have will let you taste it and it will last a good bit. But like I said, its only going to hep you 1 category. besides your times for red savina is 2 mins. it will make a habanero for 5 mins guy get up to the RS'es for 2 mins easy.
Then your NJ is 1 minute. I can easily see that too get cheated out if someone is a genuine RS for 2 mins. I think ... but might not work and someone might get seriously frocked up too ...
Cool.
