So I changed my oil at the end of the last riding season before I stored it. Nothing leaked out until I started it up and began driving it this season. when i parked it at my work all of the oil leaded out. I think I didnt tighten the parts back on tight enough. Why did the oil leak out now opposed to leaking out right after i changed it last season???
The oil is under pressure when you run the engine... everything must have been tight enough to hold the oil in under normal conditions, but not tight enough to contain the oil under pressure

the oil will get thinner as it gets hotter aswell. if it was sitting for a while i would presume it would be rather thick, once you ran it perhaps it thinned enough to leak out something that wasnt done up tight enough?
If I did this I wouldn't tell anybody. Seriously, not the brightest move. :cookoo: Who cares why the thing leaked now instead of before, there are reasons, but just but the thing back together right and your problem is solved.

Thats a pretty crazy thing to say. You've never had a brain fart? I find that hard to believe! Also, the engineer in me died a little when you said, "Who cares why the thing leaked now instead of before." If there was some sort of failure (rather than a simple drain plug that wasn't tightened), the fact that it leaked after a ride could help diagnose the problem.
My guesses:
- The oil thinned out as it warmed up and snuck past a loose bolt or dammaged o-ring.
- Something vibrated loose on your ride to work (i.e. drain plug)
-Turd.
