Hey everyone, I'm 21 and I bought an '06 GS500F. The best quote I got on it was with Kingsway General for $3016, which is manageable, but I was just curious if there are any young riders who might be able to suggest a better company to go with price-wise?! Obviously in Ontario, Canada! Thanks guys and girls.
look on the gtamotorcycle.com (http://gtamotorcycle.com) some ggod info on bike freindly insurance :thumb:
Give Gerry Kaspard a call he'll hook you up.
Holy crap $3,000 a year for a GS? Is that typical in canada? My 96' is costing a whopping $100 a year to insure. Granted I'm 29, clean driving record and have only liability, but still... Even with full coverage I think it'd only be around $300 a year.
That seems high. I paid under $1000 for full coverage back in 2004 when I bought the bike from the dealer ... I now have comprehensive for about $600.00 a year. If you haven't already, it might be worth looking into a rider training program. The completion of these programs tend to shave a bit of cash off the greedy amounts asked from insurance companies.
You can try Primmum, I believe they offer Insurance to your locale. They are known as being quite competative, price wise. Chek their website: http://www.primmum.com/en/home
Cheers,

Guys, that $3K CAD number sounds about right from what I've read from other Canucks. Seems like Canada is sucking people dry on MC insurance.
They sure are. A few insurance companies list the GS500 as a sport bike; which bangs the cost up several hundred dollars. There are ways to lower it, Ex: Get married, Get old, Be female, Have kids, Consolidate insurance coverages, Rob a bank, etc. A sad sad thing.
Did an online quote from Primmum and it was $200 less than i'm paying right now with my current insurance...which is slightly over a grand...looks like its time to switch
I paid just over 2K for insurance in ontario on my 93 GS with liability only! (M 23, 2 minor tickets) Insurance really is legalized extortion.
I only paid $2200 for the bike for christ sake.
I'm 21 with a spotty driving record and I only pay $160 for a year with progressive. I checked and it'd only be $1100 for full coverage :thumb:
I hate you guys.
LOL, I'm still wondering if maybe I typed in my License number wrong and they think I have a better driving record than i do   My parents hated the idea of me getting a bike at first :icon_rolleyes: Then I showed em how cheap insurance/ gas is, and they understood, kinda :icon_rolleyes:
I guess being old has it's benefits :) Just check my policy, actually $75 a year for 100/300/100 liability and $1,000 Medical Payment coverage (good health insurance, only need to cover $250 hospitalization copay) for both my wife and I.
For fun I checked progressive with a 2007 GSX-R1000, amazingly for 100/300/100 liability only on a GSX-R1000 it came out at $155 a year. Full coverage with $500 deductables came out at $2,700 a year. Apparently comprehensive/collision on those bikes costs a heck of a lot more than liability.
I checked for fun me + a 1098s :o not bad for just liability 1400 a year.........but for full coverage :o 9300 a year :o I was like f%$k I could buy two older 998's and just pay liability and have a parts bike and still come out ahead :icon_rolleyes:
I am riding my first street bike, though I do have a super clean record for cars. I took the MSF course last summer and bought my 06' GSF in October 06'.
I am paying $700 with everything except collision, so thats with wind, fire theft, etc.. just not if "I" am the one that causes the accident. The company wanted about $200 for plpd. I am with the TD insureance company. They were by far the cheapest company that i found.
I am in New Brunswick btw.

Check out JEVCO, mine since almost two years ago (on a 2002 GS500) went from just under 2000 to 1200 now.

Yeah I know about Jevco. My broker said that if I'm completely accident free and what not, I'll be covered for like $2000 with Jevco next year. That's a huge drop. Just gotta stay outta trouble for a year.
read through here for more info. on Ontario Insurance.

im 18 in ontario and i got quoted for a 2000 GS500E 1873$ a year basic.
Man it sucks monkey nuts to be young and trying to insure a bike or car.... I pay 550 for basic in Vancouver.
wow.. i pay $1800 /yr for full coverage on my 08' Lancer gts.. and 1100 on my gs500 for abrand new rider on a new bike fully covered..
With what insurance company?!
I am living in Toronto, Ontario and in 2004 I bougght a new gs.... Cheepest full coverage I found was with riders plus: 2890 first year, 2600 seckond year, then last year riders plus changed underwrighters.... 600 a year.. yahooo
I was 21 in 04 clean driving reckord and MSF course.
well... no driving reckord.
some lane spliting on the Gardner express way and 500 bucks worth of tickets later... im holding my breath for this years insturance quote.
Needless to say, if u gotta go piss and are stuck in stop and go trafic.... just wip it out and take a leak on someons tire... indecent exposure ticket might be cheeper.....
Thats the story i told the judge... I dont lane split anymore..
good luck with your insturance quest... bend over, cause in ontario u get raped.
my insurance is throu Wawanesa out of somewhere in teh praries... by broker hooked me up...
check for a broker in your area that carries them... might be worth it for u
3000 is too much for Ontario insurance. But that depends on your driving record!
last year i was 22/ M2/1 minor speeding ticket/Male and went to John R. Duffy for $2100 Full coverage. that was the CHEAPEST i could find and i called every insurance company in the area.
So its with JEVCO and i got my renewal letter for 2007 and its only $1200! thats almost a grand difference freakin insane.
BTW mines a 05'GS500F.
I was with Kingsway the first 3 years I had my '00 GS. I bought it brand new, and had no driving/riding experience. They took $1500 the first year, and then $1200 the next two.
When I went to renew it again for the fourth year, they raised my rate to $1500. The reason they gave me?
"Well, everyone wants a 500, so now you pay for it"
Bullshlt. :bs:
I combined my insurance on the bike with my girlfriend, and future wife to Pilot (Who has my wife's car, my bike, the apartment {At the time}, and now the house), which they have been charging me about $700 - $800 since then.
The way I see it, if you have to pay more $1500 for a GS to insure, you getting bent over the barrel without so much as a kiss as a form of foreplay.
