1  take bike and muffler to muffler shop
2  cut off old muffler
3  clamp new muffler where you want it
4  ask muffler guy to make a transition from stock headpipe to muffy

might want to ask muffy guy to do step 4 before step 2

install pipe....
ride it....
let us know what it does....
surging....not accelerating.....
head pipe turning cherry red at night....

might need a washer or two and at most 1 or 2 sizes up on the main

ride it first

When I put a freeflowing pipe on my bike, from a YZ426, which has a straight through glass pack construction, that's a larger diameter than the pipe going into the muffler, I didn't notice a need to rejet. I think my air filter must have been really clogged though because once I replaced it with a Uni foam filter, it ran really lean and needed a re-jet.

A pipe is really pointless in terms of power unless you combine it with a better filter (Uni or K&N) and re-jet it.

Yup ... clogged filter will choke more than a pipe can open up ...  :thumb: ...
In any case intake side un corking is 10 times more effective than exhaust ... take off that air box and its like you fell off a cliff.
Cool.

improved throttle response is in your head. If you didn't rejet, there will be no performance improvement, if anything, the pipe will make your bike leaner, and poorer performing. Butt dynos = unreliable. Looks good though.

OK...

After owning and removing a V&H full system because it sounded like a dying Harleydavidson.  I thought that any exhaust mods to the GS would be crap....

That sounds SWEET !!! NICE MOD !!!  I want one !!! :thumb:
