So, do any of you ride with a BT headset with a full-face helmet for longer trips? I have a Motorola but I don't think it will work well in a helmet due to the shape. Any suggestions.
Also, before you flame, I don't plan to be chatting it up with friends while on the bike, but since we have a baby coming, it would be good to at least know a call is coming so i can get off the road and speak to the wife... The vibe feature is not effective on a bike as notification.

yea dont use a regular blue tooth that you buy off the shelf . them things are so sensitive to sound . put that in your helment with all the wind noise . you would be killing the listener . if all you really want is to be able to know when someone is calling you . you can go to walmart buy one of them little handsfree earpices (only comes with one earphone) and when someone calls you . you will know

i plan on getting a tank bag, so if i hear the beep in the earpiece, i can look down and see the incoming call. otherwise i wouldn't look down. i could then decide to answer or pull off the road from the tank bag.
i think i'm going to look into this JawBone product. seems slim enough and the noise cancellation has great reviews.

True - I have a Motorola HS820 now and it isn't great. Volume isn't high enough for me to hear well even in a quiet room. I'm hoping something with noise cancellation will solve that problem.

Answer how? By pushing a button that's inside the helmet?
If you put the phone on auto-answer, you'll have no choice, you'll have someone yelling "Hello?, Hello?" in your ear while you're trying to concentrate on staying alive...
If your phone supports it, the bluetooth headsets can be controlled by voice, so you'd just say 'answer' to answer the call...
The scala units look nice. They have one that includes 2 headsets for rider to passenter or rider to rider communication, plus the function as a cellphone headset. $229 isnt' cheap but I believe most of the FRS 2 way systems are around $150 anyway, so not too much more for the added cellphone features.
most tank bags i've seen have a clear map pocket. i could put the phone in there and just hit the answer button if a call comes through. it's quite obvious that i won't be able to hit the button on the headset if it's inside the helmet. i'm not that dense!
besides, i would most likely stop the bike and make a return phone call if i needed to. i'm mostly concerned with knowing that there's an incoming call and then knowing who it's from. the rest is secondary.
I tried my Samsung phone and samsung WEP200 earpeice, phone in tank bag pocket, it all functions but I abandoned the idea as simply too much buggering about and I was concerned about the distraction factor. Voicemail will do.

the microphone on the scala is on the inside. look at it closely. the mic is on a "boom" and looks like it bends under the helmet and in front of the mouth.

Check out what modern marvels of technology are here gentlemen! Ive tried these and they work brilliant for long rides to stop fellow riding buddies getting lost or taking wrong turns.
There are more than just this one out there too so take a look, if you use them they are well worth the money.
Also good for planning stops if you always need a p*ss on the motorway like I do!! :laugh:
AGV also makes a bluetooth equipped helmet.
I think it was an AGV that I tried.
Isnt the AGV the one with the lift-up flap on the side to get to the bluetooth thingie (technical description i know :laugh:)?

i may try the Jawbone first. I need a new headset for driving anyway since my Motorola HS820 isn't very good.
if the Jawbone doesn't work for the bike, I might throw-down for the Scala.
I need to get this damn bike running first. It still won't start without being jumped! (new battery too!)

Yeah, you can't see in that photo exactly where the boom goes.. in other photos, I've seen it positioned out in front of the face shield (!??) or below the chin guard. Since I'm using a vinyl "chin curtain" that's a bit of a concern as well.
It may be the best solution, but I can't help feel that it was really designed for half or three-quarter helmets. Love to talk to someone who's actually used one.
The one I tried had it all actually built into the chin guard, it looks and feels just like a normal lid.
I was a little concerned that if they had put all this electronic kack inside the lid itself wouldnt it reduce the impact resistance?
