Title: blinker problems
Post by: Crucialval on April 23, 2007, 08:04:49 AM
ok so I know there are a lot of threads about L.E.D.s but I think I have a new problem.

I already did the diodes on the indicator, but It's still not working correctly.

when I signal right it blinks really slow and doesn't shut off completely wail blinking. when I signal left sometimes it blinks fine and others, it just glows.

what's going on

diodes != resistors

hey Val,

take your blinker relay to advance auto and get an electronic relay  for 8 bucks.....it should fix the prob.

the little lights don't draw enuf current to properly operate(heat up) the bimetalic strip in the mechanical relay

Cool.

yeah, the electronic relay thing (or one that isn't load dependent) is a better solution the resistors imo.  resistors have a little extra cutting/wiring and generate heat while the relay just plugs into the existing wiring.

Don't forget to check your blinker fluid. It could be low. Also, never mix Front Blinker Fluid with Rear Blinker Fluid.

If you are handy with electronics - you can do this. The flasher is under the body plastics on the right side of the bike.

John Bates has a niftly schematic of an LED mod...

The unmodified version of your GS turn signals is....

There is also a FAQ on doing this with links to many a thread...
