Title: Air Filter
Post by: rraiderr on April 25, 2007, 09:47:31 PM
I am having a hard time determine what air filter is in my 99 GS.

It is foam inside and out and is black in color. There is a little bit of red foam material sticking out around the plastic part on the top.

For those that can identify it is this considered a hi flow filter like a K&N or not?

Thanks

If it's foam it's a Uni, yup they are considered hi-flow :thumb:

Where would that put me in the jetting world?

Will 125's, 1 washer and 3 turns do it or do i need 150's and 2 washers and 3 turns?

I'd ask Srinath about the jetting :thumb:  The big question is how does it run currently??  The PO might already have jetted it :thumb:  But if you do re-jet I'd guess somewhere in the middle 125's probably won't do much but 150's are what I'm gonna run with an exhaust and lunchbox filter so with no exhaust it'd run rich as hell

I have one of the Uni filters and I really like it. It flows quite a bit more than stock, probally about the same as a K&N drop in. I think they probally do a better job of filtering the air than a K&N too, most dirt bikes have foam filters, and most trucks that run a K&N off road put foam arround the K&N.

Don't forget to clean it every so often, swish it arround in mineral spirits to get the crud and oil off then after it's dry, spray it with filter oil and give it a little squeeze. The oil can has directions too.
