Title: Passenger Foot Pegs
Post by: chimivee on July 22, 2003, 01:17:16 AM
Are there any pegs off other bikes that will fit (or come close to fit) as a direct replacement for the rear pegs? Thanks.

Older katana rear pegs will fit with some grindings. Just about any peg with a male fitting @ 45 degrees will fit, but you may have to do some accurate grinding if you want to retain the ability to fold them.

Thanks for the info.  I definitely want to be able to fold them.  Any other options that require minimal grinding?  (The front and rear on the GS aren't interchangeable, are they?)

The front pegs should fit either withouth or with very little grinding, but I am not sure that they would fold, or stay put once folded, the design of the male fitting is different. Besides they are much heavier and bulkier.
If I remember correctly, you live down under, don't you? Otherwise, I have a pair of stock front pegs that you can have for the shipping cost. I have also a pair of Katana rear pegs that you could have for $10 + shipping.

Just for your reference, this is a stock FRONT peg vs a Katana REAR peg, so you have an idea of how much grinding is required.

BTW, nice pictures of Africa on your web site. Were you actually in the plane that crashed? That must have been scary.

Thanks again for the info.  I don't actually want to put stock front pegs on the rear.  I was just curious about fitment since I know some have replaced their fronts with pegs off other bikes, so I figured those same replacements might work for the rear.  But I see what you mean from the pic about the grinding.  I appreciate the offer on the pegs - Let me get back to you on those Katana rears.  Oh, and no, I'm not an Aussie... I'm in southern California.

Yeah, I was in that crash.  It was CRAZY.  Definitely scary.  But, fortunately there were only minor injuries to one of us.  Makes for a really good story now though...

What pegs are for sale??  I am in the market for some smaller thinner pegs for both passenger and rider... Let me know what you have and how much you want for them... I live in Chicago, so shipping wouldn't be too much... Thanks, Ryan

Both pegs in the picture are for sale/trade. For the stock front ones, I only want shipping cost, for the katana rear pegs, $10 + shipping, or $15 shipped. Or I can trade for any other piece of junk that I can play with.

I am very interested in the Katana pegs... Now they will fit the front (rider) with some grinding??  I really am trying to look for a pair set to do the rear (passanger)  too... I will be on vacation next week, but I will get in contact with you soon, to work something out!

They will fit the front with grinding. The hole for the retaining pin is larger than the one on the GS, but all you need to do is to add a spacer. I can show you what I did for mine if you take them.
They're made of aluminum, you'll save at least half a pound compared to the stock pegs.
Sorry, I have only two. I used the front pegs on my bike. I was going to use the rear ones too, but got lazy -- grinding takes a lot of time.

Yeah, it really is... in a adrenaline kinda way - at least after the fact, or when you realize you may live!  What kind of plane were you in?  Sounds like you were piloting?

Oh btw miket, in case you were waiting on me regarding the Katana pegs (I'm sure you weren't), I think I'm gonna pass.  Thanks though.
