one of my less realistic goals is to, after we run out of kids and dogs, to build up about $50k and move to Costa Rica.

A kid I went to high school with worked at a really cheapo chinese food place (the A-frame kind of fast food restaurant) at I think minimum wage. He started going back and forth to Costa rica and bought his own land with the money from this crappy job. He was living at home at the time thus saving money, but total cost wasn't over 10k I think. It goes to show... dang! If you have the will to do that, it is fully possible. I think he keeps it now as a getaway spot.

Property values have gone up a good deal but you can still buy a beachfront 3500 sq.ft. house for under 100k :o  And live like a king for well under 10k a year :thumb:  there's a guy in town who paints houses all winter/fall and spends his summers at his house in costa rica

Are you working to be a gemologist? Or are you just using that as a starting point?

Yea ... heard that one 15 years ago ... had to unload it on ya ...
