Title: A sad day, The GS is off to someone else
Post by: ducati_nolan on April 29, 2007, 11:22:33 PM
Well yesterday was my last day with my beloved 1999 GS 500.  While she wasn't my first bike (fourth actually) she was my first bike that wasn't constantly breaking down and she never left me stranded. I learned more on her and put more miles on her than my prior three bikes combined.

Last weekend I found a 1995 Honda CBR1000F that's been crashed and has no fairings, but it's still scarey fast and my adrenal gland got the best of me. I'm sure that it was probally a bad decision to buy that big ugly scary bike, but I just was starting to get bored with the GS. The GS was so reliable and capable but I just needed more.

I think that part of my decision was because I never needed to do any thing (other than maintenance) on the GS which is great but it was to nice to do any modifacations. other than a pipe and jetting.

Anyways, I'm already missing the GS. My I just discovered that my CBR's clutch is going out, plus the fact that the rear brake is troubled and it needs new headlights. A blesing and a curse as I love modifying bikes but I also would like something reliable. When I can afford several bikes I'll get another GS though

It seems like yesterday was a sad dar for more than one...

I, too, sold my GS.

+1 on getting another GS when I can afford more than one bike.

I figure that the GS is back to doing what she dose best, teaching a newbie the ropes. I had two people check out the bike and both were total newbies so they had some experienced motorcycle buddies test ride them. I was asking $2000 (it's a 1999 with 25,000 miles) and the first woman said she'd give me $1700 but I told her I couldn't take less than $1900 and that was too much for her, although she called me an hour later and said she'd take it. I waited untill the next day when someone said they'd pay the full $2000.

I think I got a good price for her, and I think the new buyer got a good deal too. She was well taken care of, lots of highway miles and only a little beating, it also had a couple of good mods. These thinks seem to sell pretty well in Seattle, they're perfect beginer bikes but also perfect city bikes so you don't really outgrow them unles you need to be scared.

Handling Is Better Than High Speed ,
Acceration on the old girl is pretty gd , fast enuff 2 out do almost any car omn the road
the best, is the fact , like my mates got a zx 6r ., and my other has a cbr f , i sit on it , and it feels so chunky and not able to throw it about , on my gs , is slimmer ., tidyer , i love it , hence the abusive amount of money i want to spend on it , :D
