Title: Question about katana FE
Post by: The Buddha on April 30, 2007, 09:57:26 AM
OK the frame is hanging free, and the bearings are out except for the outer races.
Now the kat FE has bearings in it as well. I will have to put Dgyvers spacer bushings under the lower bearing inner race on the stem and over the top bearigs inner race right ???
Now I guess I have to replace the bearings cos yanking out the pressed in races will destroy them.
So anyone recomend a place and make of bearings to buy ??? and the Kat and GS have the same ???
Needle is better than ball I guess, and is there some better grease ... like synthetic water proof, boat trailer wheel bearing grease ??? that i should pack it with.
Cool.

I have got the stem bearings off of ebay. Other times I clean and repack them white lithium grease, but only if the races and rollers are good.

Wont removing the pressed in race in the frame ruin it ... and wont removing the inner race to get the spacer under it ruin that ???
But ebay may be an option, just search I guess ?? Yup, white lithium grease, I will do that.
Cool.

If you get new bearings they come with races, so what if the old race gets ruined removing it from the frame. To remove the race from the stem you will either need the special tool or cut some slit and use a chisel to knock it off.
