Title: Chain tension Q
Post by: ops_south on May 04, 2007, 03:04:32 PM
So I was in today having a new rear tire put on...  After getting the bike back, the chain seemed excessively tight.  I questioned them on it and the individual stated that you should adjust the chain tension on the center stand and get it as tight as you can without being "bowstring tight", otherwise you would be in danger of throwing the chain.  He also stated that you should adjust it at the point in the chain that it is most loose.

I have always done as I have interpreted in the Suzuki manuals and tightened it to 20-30mm of slack (while on the side stand) at the tightest point in the chain.  I am assuming that in measuring the tension, it should be free movement in the chain and not forced in either direction.

So what say you all on the correct way to adjust the chain?

I'd stick to what it says in the manual
You should tighten the chain by the tightest spot on it,but if the other spots are overly loose => new chain soon
