Tips, comments or pictures of your own reflective job ?
for the record the blue lines of tape are almost a perfect match to the paint and the white reflectivemnes you see on the rear arm, rear V shape anchor, and front spoiler are actually black on day time vision....
wow!! :icon_mrgreen:
kinda reminds me of a tv series aired when I was a child..."Automan"...anyone remember?? :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

automan. ya, that was a cool show. 'cursor' was the coolest bot ever. the electronic stuff he could do was awesome.
iirc the guy that played the main character has had several B shows since then. i can't recall his name, and won't rely on google for something i should remember.
YOUR bike looks cool too. I'm surprised to type this but you really should do it up more. Really. Lots more tape, and a LED kit to really brighten it up.

As far as I can remember, Automan featured Chuck Wagner as main actor and Desi Arnaz,jr. as co-protagonist...
Not to mention his fictional car (Lamborghini Countach which had no notion of gradual cornering at all :icon_mrgreen:) :thumb:

Well i can tell you with certain assertiveness that cars can SEE me on the road. had my wife follow me one night, and she said she could see my reflective tape before she could see the old oem tailight (now changed to LED) from about 1/4 mile away.
I know that not many cars stick behind me, seems the tape is reflective enough that it annoyes the driver behind me. most dont stay behind for very long, even on busy highway, people tend to stay back/change lane. which is what I like.
So very cool, I have to get some myself. :thumb:
Oh my god that is fckin' sick! I love that movie! I'll be Zarc!!
Last design on a helmet I use sometimes.. I figured I might as well get some reflectiveness on it as well.
this was more a challenge because it was multi-lined graphics, remember when you do something like this, you
dont have to follow the lines to their end, the purpose of reflective tape is to be seen first, matching the colors
permits to have a helmet that looks normal on daylight, but brings its effectiveness at night. May save your life,
without loosing your " I look cool on my bike" look. (grin).. safety first, always, maybe we can start a "taped it" topic
and see other creations ?

no sarcasm from me in my previouse post. :thumb:
i've used the BIG FAT 2" tape on my helmet, and put some here and there underneath the bike, towards the rear.
i also thought 'hey people dont like being behind me, must be blinding them with tape!', then shrugged it off. one of my co-workers complained about being behind me on the way to work one morning and how 'that f%$king green vest and 3M shaZam! all over gave me a headache!' so it IS WORKING.
cool beans.
Well I finally ran out tape :)
I use a Speedpac backpac/tank bag that would obscure my jacket reflectiveness so.. yep you guessed it... I taped it !

the tape used 1/8" wide (impressive how much the reflectiveness makes it look so wide when illuminated eh?)
I use 1 roll of blue, 1 roll of white and 1 kit of (super white) black.

Dude... this is the sickest thread ever. I am totally ordering some of that stuff now... I especially like the tape lines you chose on those helmets of urs. Rad.
cause of the bold line and bright visual of the reflective tape I would say this is closest to 'primitive' art... ya know... like basquiat or Keith Haring.

Is the black reflective tape "Superblack" or just "black" ?

Chris, you will find that the 1/2" will do curves, the tape is not that thick to start with, but 1/2" is quite wide..
Use a ruler and look a possible result width on your application, the tank line is not going to work on 1/2" that edge is barely 1/8" wide.
Aside that, the rest can work, but you also have the option of calling them quickly on the phone (or email and see if you can change the order).
good luck on that..

the black in rolls is superblack, if you are refering to what I used, then its superbright black and only come in stripes (I used it because it was for the swing arms and I wanted 1/2", 1/1" and 1/8" strips :)) [superbright black --> http://www.streetglo.net/reflective.motorcycle.frame.kit.html[/img]
I used the white/blue on this chart 1/8"x37ft rolls (still have about 10 ft left of white :))
Stripes look nice but I went a bit further. Trying to cover up my nasty paint job till I get a chance to repaint it. I copied the graphics from my spare tank.I may change the white swoosh to reflective too.

Ok....my Scorpion and bike are going to get some of this treatment for my night riding! Love the visibility!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Mine was already shipped and should be arriving tomorrow or the next day (got the express delivery for only a few dollars more). I don't mind cutting the tape to make it thinner if need be, that's no problem. This will be my very FIRST project for my bike..... even if it is as minor as putting tape on it  I also have a blue scorpion helmet... but mine has a flaming skull on each side, hope the tape doesn't make that look like hell, cuz it looks cool now O0
that stuff is so cool
im really trying to think of a place that it would work on my bike, but i just cant. not realy the same style.
nice job with it though, it looks badass.
im sure the visibility helps a lot, when i blew a fuse for my lightbar, and i was rolling with 1 headlight instead of 3, i noticed a HUGE increase in people pulling out in front of me. even during the day.

Onion paper, trace it out, lay it out on the paper side of 3m square sheet white reflective tape kit (they sell them on ebay in various sizes) and simply trace it back down... and cut it out with an exacto knife :)
WAY cool.
how do you think the tape will hold up in rainy or hot/sunny conditions? is it stuck on there well, or does it peel off easily?

Onion skin would bew the hard way.... I own a vinyl sign business. I just let the computer cut them out.reflective vinyl is Very hard on blades xacto or the kind in my cutter. It's actually got glass beads in it.I buty the material in 15" wide rolls and cut what I need. I can also get the rolls of tape. Not sure if the company I deal with has quite as many colors but they do have 5 or six at least.
Not sure about the life of the tape you are getting as I'm not sure who is actaully manufacturing it.Most I get is either 5 or 7 year gauranteed, same as any good auto vinyl. I can cut pretty much anything out of it.I did a whole IROC camaro in it back in the mid '90's,all black car, all the factory stripes & letters re-done in reflective blue.Same material used on most police cars now.
If anybody need anything cut let me know and I'll get you a price.
Greg
Might as well post the price for "SUZUKI", I think people will ask.
That vinyl or Mylar stuff rocks. I used to dumpster dive for it with my high school buddies and we would make street stickers from it with paint pens. Some of my stickers are still up 7 years later. :thumb:
I'll Try to work up a small list of colors & prices and post it in the next couple of days in the for sale section.

I thought I was cheap
It's not so much that I dont want to drop 15 bucks on two rolls of tape...Im just saying that even if it took 14' of tape to do my helmet between black and white i would still have 60' of it. I figured someone out there would want to use it...its just a bonus that it is cheaper than if we both bought it on our own.

As For AUTOMAN... I've been asking people if they remember the show with the dude that could change traffic lights from his car that took 90 degree corners on a knifre edge...AND NO ONE DID!!! I was beginning to think it was something I had thought up during a bad trip... Alas, GSTWIN save the day (and my sanity)... And TroN may have been the best movie ever... lol dude, I aint in it to make monies, I am in it to make people realize with a little elbow grease they can make themselves more visible at night. I dont care about their "publicity thing", I care about "free decal". I only care about riders feeling safe on the road (well the ones that care to feeling safe because they already know they are not invicible (grin)).
beside what in the heck would I do with 100$ of tape humm 7$/37ft 100/7 = 14 rolls = 518ft of reflective tape... and fenderjonesy though he had issue with 50ft of the stuff... lol

well I normally post about the excess tape I have on the famous forum "pass it on" we have here, last year Melanie from Houston took my rolls off my hands, this time around, I have about 5 ft left of silver is all... sorry mate. but you might consider "passing it on"
as far a how much does it take to make a helmet, well probably no more than 10ft I guess depending how much work you do on it, I did one for a friend at work he wanted all "flames" on his helmet (and gawd there was a lot to be done) in 1/8" and 1/16" lines, came out rather good, but used about 18 feet of silver and red.

I tried freehanding some similar lines and this 1/10" tape is just too squirrelly to do precisely. Resorted to some simple lines (still off, but F it) that look okay and probably increase visibility a few pctage points. Woot. Next, rims and plastics if I have enough yellow and black left. Thanks for the tip dude.
Damn, those lines are off. And short.
F it.
nicely done... yeah 1/10" is very squirley to use (I only use it for flames or designs on helmets)
Gonna order some when the bank finally turns my card back on...bastards... Anyway, the 0.1 in. is too hard to run smooth line?? Should I get the 1/8th in.??? Don't want anything thicker that I need, don't wanna see it in the daytime. Gonna get that "superblack" strip kit, no choice in size there, but want silver for wheels and lines on my frame... Pretty sure the original poster said he used the 1/8th...
Quote of the day: "Only the impossible happens" -R. Buckminster Fuller
Seems he had motorcycling and bike repair on his mind at the time...hehehehe
1/10 works and makes a nice width of line, I think its classy. however it's not the easiest thing to create photo-symmetrical lines with.
If you are good with your eyes/hands, careful, and use plenty of soapy water it will probably work out fine for you.
btw I like the product but the markup is huge. I used to get this stuff out of dumpsters by the yard (though not all of it was reflective) and i believe then it was $9/ft or $9/yard for big sheets, I cant remember which.
(http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/2397/img0396111ff2.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
1/10" reflective black tape on rims...
it's a little skinny as far as lines go, but adds a nice accent. Damn... those little wiggles I thought would disappear from a distance are still visible. Ah well... at speed no doubt it's fine...
And when you see the gleam pass over the wheels i.e. while turning or passing by no doubt it's a cool effect!
Now I gotta figure out where else it needs some tape. :icon_razz:

Do you have any pictures of the bike without the flash?
I'd imagine that the tape is hardly noticible in the daylight, correct?

That's really cool. I'll have to get the black reflective tape. You wouldn't even notice it in the daylight.
Had to do something on the front:

no really, that looks cool, but if you're gonna Tron it out, you gotta go all the way!
the reflective tape on the tire spokes wouldnt look that bad on the freeway :)
I thought about that. If you made a big reflective spot out of all spokes, parts of each spoke, or one spoke, it coud make a pretty cool effect.
You should ask about getting some kind of commission. They are gonna sell a lot more tape in the next couple of weeks. I am thinking about it as well. If I can keep myself from overdoing it, it might look sweet.

Could I PLEASE GET A LITTLE MORE COWBELL ?

I've got to get my act together and get some cow bell on my bike! :icon_lol:
That is cool. Especially on the wheels.
I'm gonna get some of the black myself for the frame
When i give the bike to my wife , i'm gonna change out the barends for some tassels though , like on my 3yo daughter's bike :thumb:
Perhaps someone already fixed this. I'm tired and lazy.
It's www.streetglo.net
There is no doubleyew. (W) heh heh

I am thinking the wheel spokes being "taped" would cause a "epiliptic effect" last thing I need is a driver coming at me from the side and go into a seizer cuase him to stiffen up his foot unto the accelerator...
humm... no. the idead is to deter, not accentuate accidents.

all though that would be pretty entertaining to see a cop do that lmao
Well got bored with current helmet stripping, and decided to buy a precut kit on ebay....
nice quality stuff....
PS: to remove tape that has been on for a while, use a plastic paint scrapper.
Here are some pictures of the Scorpion helmet updated
