Title: My 06 GS is squirting my foot with oil?
Post by: Dober on May 06, 2007, 02:41:27 PM
Yesterday I noticed a bit of oil along the crankcase and a tiny bit on the exhaust.  I only started riding last monday, and was out most of friday evening.  I wiped it off last night and I went for a 20 minute ride to my friends house and its all over the place.  Not a ton of oil, the level seems to have barely dropped, but I cleaned it all up and it keeps running out and along the whole side of the bike.

I bought it new in december 06 so it has warranty but is this a common problem or could it turn out to be something big?

I thought maybe it was leaking from the oil filler cap but I dont see how it could leak past the rubber seal.

Any ideas?

If you're having trouble tracing where the oil is coming from, clean everything up reall well with some degreaser and check for the leak after a short ride.

I'm not going to lie, there was some talk on here a few months ago about some of the 06's leaking from the base gasket.  If you don't see an obvious source of oil, take it back to the dealership.  DON'T let them charge you for any of the work if it needs any.  NONE!

Good luck!

I dropped my bike off at the dealership this afternoon.  I called first thing this morning and they are booked up for over a week so thats awesome.

Ive had a real annoying rattling too and I saw somewhere on here about front fender bolts and sure enough one of them is loose.

Hopefully these wankers can get my bike fixed early so I can have it back for this weekend.

Tell them that your bike is your only mode of transportation and demand that they give you a loaner bike or pay for a rental car.

Usually when a new car is in for repairs under waranty that's what they do. The bike dealer probally won't go for it but it'll probally speed them up.

The dealership called me this afternoon and my bike needs a new head gasket.  Doesn't that seem like a big problem for a new bike to have??

Yes.  See my first reply to this post.  There is a large number of 06's that had faulty head gaskets (though I said base gasket...my bad).  I've seen at least a dozen others on this forum with the same problem.  Pretty inexcusable if you ask me.

So is this a one time fix or is this bike a piece of crap and going to be prone to head gasket failures?

There's no telling, but I highly doubt that you'll have any future problems with it.  It likely was caused by a faulty gasket (crappy part) or mis-torqued head bolts (crappy assembly).  No one reported having a warped deck or anything else that would be cause for real concern.  Its just a Buddha Loves You to replace.  Suzuki has literally probably spent hundreds of thousands in labor to fix their crappy workmanship.

Here is one saga relating to the '06's.  There are more:

Suzuki has some major problems with the 06's and at least a few incompetent dealers in their network.  Hopefully your mileage will vary.

I don't recall how Suzuki took care of 06GSowner's problem, but he was trying to get them to buy it back after numerous head gasket changes.  No word as to whether the head gasket or a hard assembly was to blame.

:icon_confused:I have looked all over the motor but not a noticed any leaks around the head area, I cant find a leak period.
Did you have any backfire issues? I thought they had just used cheap gas at the dealer, it did it last night once but has run fine since. Its only getting oil on longer runs, say more than 15-20 miles.
