Title: Luggage Rack....Still looking
Post by: Lnfog on May 09, 2007, 02:16:39 PM
Hi everybody,

I am still looking for a luggage rack for my 1996 GS 500.  I tried the place on the last post I did, but they don't have them anymore.  I have tried just about every place in the United States.  Somebody said they built one, but from the pictures I can't get a good idea how to make it.  Does anybody have any plans?  Any help will do.  I have been looking for a month already.  Thanks.

Try ventura http://www.kenma.com.au/public/ven_BPS.html as any of the OZ riders will tell you nothing beats these there lite, robust (Ive seen them after an accident and they hold up really well) easy to store sometimes a little tricky to fit, nothing a bit of brute strength wont fix and they look pretty good but they are not the cheapest thing around but you get what you pay for, Ive used saddle bags and tank bags as well but this is the bomb :thumb:

I think I posted on this a couple times but I'll add that I never had any plans for my homemade luggage rack for the 97, just got a piece of aluminum angle and sat down and made it.  It doesn't look like much but it worked great for me for a few years, it's still on the 97 GS that I don't use anymore.  I posted these pics recently:

Others have made racks like this one davipu made with tubing:

If you want one to carry a Givi bag, I like the SW-Motec rack from Twisted Throttle.  If I wanted another to carry a hard case I'd get that one.

Also I wouldn't hesitate to put a hardcase on  my 97 GS homemade rack but I'd add a couple bracing struts like I used on the 02 GS with the Suzuki factory rack:
