Have you tested them or do they just look weak?

Did you do the beef test, or did someone you know?

well i havent fallen in them but the protection just isnt there...they look a bit abrasion-resistant but wont do too well for impact damage

icon tarmac ($25):

or Teknic Violators ($99):

The Icons look like the glove version of the JR mesh jackets(based on description also)...you get the protection you pay for, at least between these two price points.

i got a pair of teknis violator (pro?) from newenough.com for $75.something on close-out....i wish i had seen those earlier b/c i got those tarmacs for $20 from kneedraggers and i think id be losing money from all that shipping and stuff so ill just keep them....i think they would be nice gloves to wear when working on the bike tho, as the palms are leather (or fake leather)....oh well....

I've got a pair of Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves, and the material looks similar.  It's not the same material as used in the Phoenix and Reactor Jackets.

When I had my accident, the mesh material didn't hold up well at all.  There's a sizable hole at the wrist of one of them.  I'm still glad I wore them though!  The Icon Tarmac gloves, compared to Phoenix gloves: Tarmac is cheaper, has more protection in wrist/back of hand area, and much less protection around fingers and thumb.

Hmm, those violator gloves look pretty sweet... doesn't look like they were meant for hot weather though!

I got the Icon TiMax gloves and unlike the Tarmacs these babies are SERIOUS protection. Sure they were made mainly for looks but they are well designed and constructed. I'm comfortable in them in anything below 85* F weather. Above that and they're too hot.

My only real complaint about them is that they take longer to get on and off than my jacket does but that's the price you pay for unmatched wrist protection. Well that and the $130.

Yea I am jealous those Ti MAX gloves look cool.

MAD MAX BABY :thumb:
I have low sided in the Joe Rocket Highside gloves
http://www.kneedraggers.com/index.php?partno=33-JR-HSD
and I managed to scrape through the leather enough to just barely bloody one knuckle. Three knuckles showed abrasion.
They are made of really thin leather and feel grippy and very cool.
I figure for $50 gloves they are pretty good and despite the accident they have held up well and I have not replaced them yet
I probably could have gotten better at NewEnough.com

has anyone gotten ahold of the Icon super duty gloves? (the one's inbetween tarmac and TiMax)

I have a pair on order (been waiting almost five months) but have yet to see a pair.

Those Ti Max gloves remind me of Sauron's gauntlet in the Lord of the Rings movie!

Maybe Sauron should have been wearing those gloves instead of the ones he used... his fingers got chopped off  ;)

Anyone got pics for comparison?  There has to be some hobbit-loving geek around here  :P
