Title: mesh jackets
Post by: salad on May 11, 2007, 08:37:55 AM
It's already in the 90s (and rising) here, so I'm looking for a jacket I'll be comfortable in during the summer. Mesh is the best for hot weather riding, right?

I've been considering the Fieldsheer "High Flow" jacket: http://www.fieldsheer.com/2007web/web3/product/highflow.htm
Has anyone tried it out?
All CE approved armor (elbow, shoulder, AND back!) is included... so that's nice. Plus, it's only 90 bucks! ..I think the blue one is my favorite.  O0
I've read that the Mach jackets are sweet, but I can't find them anywhere.

Cortech GX-Air. Mesh, leather/CE armor in all the impact/abrasion spots (Back, shoulders, forearms, elbows), 2 liners, one rain, one thermal. I've used this jacket down to about 30 degrees with no real issues (Just put a fleece on underneath it). I've also used it in the Florida summer, up to about 95 to 100 degrees with no real issues. Crash tested it twice, once at 30mph once at 60mph.. jacket has 2 negligible holes in it, and I will continue to wear it until I can afford to replace it. I'll be buying the exact same jacket. They can be had for cheap on ebay as well, through the newenough.com outlet store. I walked away from both wrecks unscathed, btw.

Looks pretty comparable to the Fieldsheer so go for the one you like best and can afford :thumb:

Hangovers suck    although that combination sounds pretty good 8)

Vanson!

It's got CE armor all over, is stupid expensive (MSRP on mine is $175 + whatever, but I got it for $160 shipped), but it is the best damn mesh jacket I have ever had. It's got a 1000 denier cordura mesh (my old ones have been 600 denier) and literally feels like I'm not wearing anything at all once I get moving. It's a loose weave, but it's very strong.

That's a nice looking jacket.  I think the Fieldsheer I ordered is 600 or 650 I forget.  Hell it's better than none at all :thumb:

I've had my Fieldsheer mesh jacket for almost 3 years now, and I live in Florida (we practically invented heat!).  Anyway, it's held up well and I've been very happy with it.    It takes a few minutes to get all the armor out when I wash the jacket.

Xelement 50 bucks on amazon.com and it is a great jacket with all the protection one expects from a hot weather coat
