So I am going to upgrade my front springs with Racetech. I plan to go with the .90kg/mm. I ride pretty aggressive so I figure the .90s are the best way to go. I was wondering how easy it is to change the springs? Do I have to change the seals if they are still good?
From the GS500 FAQ:

Also...
Holy crap it's the Wiki!

(the link is on the Wiki as well)
Good luck!
Totally random.. but can I recommend sonic springs instead? Some of the best customer service I've ever had.
Follow the Alpha links and stumble your way through the things the links don't explain well enough. It's kinda like a rite of passage for GSers.

If it's not clear in the Wiki, then change it so it is. That's the beauty of it.
ngfl, do you have a website and price for sonic?
http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=31_65&osCsid=c439a518e7625608741fba69e5dae7e3
that should link you right to the gs500 springs.
$79.95, and the best customer service.
I agree. Great customer service and will ship to Australia :thumb:

Indy Superbike has the Race Tech's for $79.95 + about $11 shipping (to Kansas). I bought a set last night, so I can't comment on the customer service.

You should be happy with .80s.

As found on the RaceTech website...

165 .... I went with .90kg/mm but I am also modding the rear suspension
when i got mine i called race tech and went thought all the specs with them on what i thought i needed.
got the stiffest race and the eilmuator (spell) for around 250 or so may have been a lot cheaper as i was workign for cycle gear at the time.
turd, apparently i'm too light for their calculations... they said N/A for the spring rate for a 140lb rider... i feel so little... :dunno_white: i'll go with .80s. i have the kat750 rear shock on 4 , coil on 5 and it barely moves when i sit on the bike.
Hahaha, you probably ruined the calculator. I'd stick with 0.80's if I were you.

I weigh about 135 without gear, and I got .8 with 5w oil, with a kat shock, and I'm happy.

Wrecent - didn't realize you were riding around on stock springs? if so, you're in for a big change, especially at your size. :thumb: I'd guess you're not going to think their too stiff at all. even if you 're smooth, you must have been bottoming out regularly. say good bye to that!
Yeah I went the .85s myself, I wieght in at about 220 give or take a couple lbs. I am also putting in 15w fork oil, I like a hard ride and have a shorter suspention travel because the clipons I installed. After they get in and I put them in the next thing I am going to do is attack the rear shock......
PS: My wife hates that I have spent a lot of time fixing/modding/tinkering with the bike and has invoked the don't mention it around me for more than 10 minutes a day rule. I hate that rule, for the most part I ignore it

thanks for the advice guys
How the hell do y'all stay so skinny??? Unless you're 4'5" I guess... I'm about 200-210, and will address springs when financially appropriate. Know what you mean about dumping money into something I'm gonna sell (lusting after the SV650), but it's so much more fun to get back on once I do some work. Like learning the mechanics, too. Great little bike to learn to ride and learn to wrench on... Three cheers for the cheap bike that needs mods to run right, been around for what, 20 years?, and can take a hell of a lickin (and substantial neglect to maintenance...hehehe) and still get up and run after sitting all winter. Just make sure you get all the dog food out of your air filter that the mice stashed over the cold months...hehee(http://www.gstwins.com/photogallery/albums/userpics/11561/noname.jpg)
