Title: 40,000
Post by: bubba zanetti on May 15, 2007, 04:50:56 PM
On the weekend my GS turned over 40,000 km's. Being a '93 model, it works out at less than 3,000 k's a year on average, but the last 2 years I've been doing well over 5,000. :thumb:

Also this is my 1,000th post  :icon_mrgreen:

Just for you ppl still using backward measurements for speed & distance, it's 25,000 miles.  :thumb:

I guess I have a way to go in order to catch you.

My bike just turned over 1000 miles of the backward measurements!

We both have a long way to go to surpass our gsJack.  But then he has been doing this for a lot longer than most of us.

As it is I'm keeping pace with you, Bubba.  Roughly 5,000 km/year myself, and recently passed 20,000 km in a bit over four years running my 2001.

Woa cool... Ok, so every 1000k on a bike is a birthday for the engine... Well not quite, but if it was your GS would be 40...

That calls for a beer... not for you, for the GS... :)

Cheers,
J

I'll have to find out the month it was manufactured so I can celebrate it's birthday, I did give it a nice wash last weekend.  :thumb:

The bike did spend 2 1/2 years in the shed not being ridden, so I could have over 50,000k's on it. One prediction I can make is that it's going to get alot more use.

My R6 hit EXACTLY 5000 miles today.

It's sitting in the driveway with the 5000 on the ODO.

Whats the highest anyone has seen a GS with on the clock?
And at what point does the milliage get so high that its more practical to get a new bike?
Would anyone here NOT get a new GS?

My 97 GS500E that I bought new in Mar 99 had about 76k miles on it when it was totaled in July 03, I repaired it and put it back in service and then bought the 02 GS500 in Sept 03 and the 97 is sitting in the garage with a little over 80k miles on it now.  Have about 48k miles on the 02 now.

Son is going to use the 97 GS now so we'll see how far it goes.  I had planned on using it another year or two before it was totalled in 03.  I have mixed feelings about a new GS500F after the 02 is used up because they no longer sell the naked version here in the US which I prefer.  Might have to change my name to exJack.    :thumb:

On the other hand, it gets a bit harder every year to swing my almost 75 yo hip over a tall GS saddle and I might have to change it to vnJack one of these days, still got a thing about 500cc twins being just the right size for me.

Sure glad bubba finally has his GS broken in so he can cut loose with it now.

Does any one know if they still sell the naked GS new in the UK?

I much prefere the naked model over the "Plastic Fantastic" look.

There is always the potential to pick up a gently used and heavily loved pre-2002 GS500.  Not ready to say goodbye to my favuorite ride:

but there must be others out there.  (Noticed no one had posted any photos in this thread.)  :)
