Title: Has anybody gotten a 1/4 mile time with a 14t or 15t
Post by: bombadillo on May 15, 2007, 08:38:04 PM
I was wondering what the impact that a 14t/15t front had on the 1/4 mile times of the gs.  I don't need a timeslip or anything, but just an idea of what it would do.  I am contemplating jetting it, running a pipe and a 15t front and be done with mods for now.

I used to post my drag times after each mod.  Try searching for "race report" in the subject line with V8pinto as the author.  It's been a while but I believe I got down to a 14.1 on a 30,000 never had a tuneup 89 GS-E.  That was with just a drilled stock pipe, K&N, and a rejet.  After that I put on a Supertrapp (ran it open) and the 15 tooth and it was a wheelie king.  I'll look for the times.

Maybe he got a new sundial & wants to check it's accuracy by running a few 1/4 miles  :icon_mrgreen:

relative to what a GS is, the 1/4 times aren't too bad.  I remember reading through V8Pinto's and other people experiences and being pleasantly surprised with what it can do and it does make for a peppy ride.

in the bigger picture though, there are more and more cages that stock, would leave a GS in a straight pretty handily.  I know it can be kind of a touchy subject around here and there is no slight intended (i love my gs), but just keeping it real.  besides we all know the GS shines more in other situations.

has anybody got into the mid/low 13's with the gs?  that would be cool and would like to hear your setup and 1/4 mile driving experience.

13.308 a couple weekends ago, with no mods to gearing.  V&H, Jets and Filter and 140-70/17 rear tire.  .523 RT.  The best mod I've done is upped the tire size, it lets me run in gear longer thus having less time that the bike doesn't have any drive to the rear wheel.  it was the same w/ my ATV's as well.  Shorter gearing gave me better 60 ft times but 1/4(even 1/8) mile times wer slower than when i could run a higher speed in each gear.

The bike is lowered, piped, jetted and breathing better plus fresh valves.  No real motor work otherwise.  13.767" was as good as i got it to go before the new tire.  I don't know how much that is attributed to the fact that the old rear was junk.  WOT, speed shifting and weighing 130 lbs soaking wet help me quite a bit.  i ran the crap out of my buddies GT Mustang vert.

well thanks rob, I am just trying to get baseline numbers of what it runs in reality.  I've heard anything from high 13's to a 15.2 stock.  I just wanted to know what a 15t would do to the 1/4 time because I'm a number junkie and not trying to race anything.   I've had 12 second cars (mainly foxbody mustangs) and know it would walk a GS any day of the week, but just wanted to get an idea of what this would do anyway.  I'm going to give this bike to my wife when I get a year or so under the belt with it and become a better rider so I can get an sv750/1000 or a 600cc superbike.

yeah, I plan on giving my fiancee mine once i get my yzf600r late summer.  but this bike is a hell of a fun ride.  I read that bone stock was s'posed to pull 13.9xx" in the 1/4 mile so I'm not really tearing anything up.

Published road test results from the moto mags over the years show 13.6 to 14.5 sec quarters with the newer ones being the slower ones.
