Title: Melted front fender
Post by: bucks1605 on May 17, 2007, 07:45:26 AM
When I bought my bike the bottom of the front fender was all warped like it had been burt. I just saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0diYc6cNJ0&mode=related&search= (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0diYc6cNJ0&mode=related&search=)  and I'm wondering if that's what somebody did with my bike before I owned it.

Melty front fender can be common on these when sitting stationary for awhile. Mine's melty because of my wreck, shoved the forks back and ran the fender straight into the headers.

Lean mix = super hot pipes = heat near the fender = fender getting softish = fender getting pulled with the wind towards the motor = Heat near the fender ... repeat.
So, may not be much to get excited about, get it running right via a rejet. A Pipe will get rid of heat better too.
Cool.

Yeah the CF wileyco stays suprecool compared to stock :thumb:  I can actually touch it after a ride :o  The headers I wouldn't touch but they seemed significantly cooler :thumb:

The bike is a '96 and it only had 5,000 miles on it. So it was probably sitting a lot more than it was moving. It had the stock exhaust when I bought it, but I changed that out and rejetted. I ended up cutting of the melted part, looks pretty good. Now if I could just stop my tach cable from leaking on to my freshly painted pipes...

Had the same thing when I bought my 96 (with about the same miles).  Yeah, took my dremel to it with a cut off wheel, redrilled the holes for that little extension part that bolts on, and looks almost like new.  One wave went up too far to cut all the way out, but you really have to bee looking to notice it.  Threee cheers for plastic bikes!!!
