I was at my local zuki shop and ask what years the 4.5 rear wheels came on the Katana. They gave 96 to 02.They looked this up in there parts interchange manual. So guess what I did.Ran out ,got on ebay, and found a 96 wheel with almost new tire.I bet when it get's here it'll be a 3.5 with a 160 stuffed on it.Has anyone heard of a 96 katana with a 4.5 rear wheel?Could the bike be a special edition or factory race bike?
The Katana is a sport-touring bike so I doubt that there was a racing/special edition done :icon_rolleyes:
Look up on any online parts diagram and you will see in 98 th Kat 600/750 rear wheel was changed to 4.5" and the front was changed to 3.5".
The 4.5" Kat rear has the straight spokes and the 3.5" Kat rear, like the GS has the swept spokes.
The 4.5" Kat rear is the same as the 99-02 SV650/S.
Thanks.This helps.
UPDATE!The wheel I received is a 4.5 swept spoke wheel.
I'll post pictures later.It's from a 96 Bandit 600 not Katana.The listing was wrong.
Does any one know if this wheel will work.
The B6 has 20mm bearings. You can swap bearings but the inner bearing spacer will need to be replaced as well. I do not recall if the hub width is the same, so I do not know if the GS spacer will work. Someone had made capitive spacers before, eliminating all of that.
I have a B6 wheel but have not messed with installing it yet, not sure which bike it will end up on.
dont you just love ebay users who list the wrong item :icon_rolleyes:
Wrong listers is how I got my kat shock. After I posted my update,I foud my anwsers on wiki, and here.
I usually try a search here first. But,I sneezed earlier and lost the better part of my brain. :icon_mrgreen:
the B-6 should be same as 88-89 GSXR750 wheel swap
I said....SHOULD

Thanks. :thumb:
The inner diameter is larger on the B6 bearings.I have been experiencing wobble above 50 mph,
so I plan to change the bearings to help eliminate that as a suspect.I'm also rebuilding my forks, rear
swing arm, front and rear brakes, checking and replacing all bearings as nesassary.Hopefully I'll win an ebay
auction and have a complete Katana front end.
I had to buy a whole katana! lol
you didn't actually install it and ride it without changing bearings....

Nope.Not until I find a bandit 600 axle,caliper,caliper bracket,and brake pads.Then,I'll install brand spanking new bearings. :thumb:
did you win the front end?
easier and cheaper to just swap to the GS brgs....
