My bike went dud three weeks ago and then i had figured out that it was the battery as i was able to jump start it. I was out of town for three weeks with discharged battery and today i checked the battery and it shows 6.5V voltage with three cells dried up. I dont have hydrometer to check SG, should I buy a new battery or get some electrolyte and charge it?
I have a CB10L-B2, what does it mean anyways?
How long should I charge at 1amp?
from what I understand you only need to replace the distilled water, but i'm likely wrong.
i'd do that then check it, charge if needed, and recommend you a starter intterupt relay like mine. it's a hack, but does wonders. :thumb:
It sounds like the electrolyte/water evaporated out of the battery. Just replace the fluid (you can use distilled water; not tap) and charge it for 12 hours @ 1amp/hr. If it still shows 6.5v after that, then get a new battery.
The base voltage of a 12v battery should be 12.6v. After you give it a good charge, let it sit for an hour or so before checking the voltage. There's a "charge momentum" that needs to settle out to the base voltage of the battery.
As Scratch suggests, if its well under 12v, the battery is not good and time for the recycle man.
