Yep the one from my 1993 has all kinds of rattling noises inside. Things are going quickly on my project bike, so I would like to get a replacement motor quickly.
Looking for a complete with tranny. Doesn't necessarily need carbs, I've got a couple sets of those.

I've got a buddy that wants to bore out my GS engine ... he's doing free labor , parts at his dealer cost (he WAS gonna pay half , but he doesn't remember saying that now lol) , etc so he can use it as advertisement for his new M/C repair/rebuild/customization business . I'd like to hear of this "643" build also ... I saw somewhere someone had done a 565 or something to that effect , but if there's a 643 that sounds even better hehe
Any one else happen to have a engine. I just toasted the one on my '02 and with the price of gas would love to get my bike back on the rood soon!

ive got a caseless engine in missouri, that needs rebuilt. i know the head needs new valves, but otherwise it could prolly be used. willing to let it go dirt cheap, just to get rid of it
For those wanting to do an overbore....the largest you can go with stock sleeves is 79mm/555cc. The sleeves get very thin and risk cracking or chipping, I have one as proof. Anything larger requires boring the cylinder and installing larger sleeves. This then requires some clearance to be added in the cases. The biggest problem with going too big will be snapping cranks.
Do they make different cams that work with the GS ?
Or would this even be needed with something small enough to still use the stock sleeves ?

Megacycle modifies your stock cams. With high comp pistons, it makes a big difference.

Dgyver, if you overbore to 79mm/555cc (or less) does it compromise the durability of the engine? How much more power can you glean from doing this?

Any time doing that much of an overbore, reliability has the potential to be reduced. I would not build a 555 with stock sleeves for the street. The 80mm pistons require larger sleeves which actually would be more reliable than the 79's bored in stock sleeves. I have the pistons and cylinder for a 569, which will find its way back to my trackbike. I am using my 541 trackbike motor on the street for now, until I build the 4-valve GR650 motor. Then the 541 will go to a second trackbike.
On the 555 I had, I would guess 55-58hp but the torqued in increased as well. Cams are a must if you want to exploit any real gain from larger pistons.
Still looking for a motor. Local dismantlers said "they couldn't find the motor" that they had just told me they had in stock :(
I got a motor sitting in my garage that I'll sell for 100.00 if you want to pick it up (south east, PA). I had bought it last year as an impulse buy, figured someday I might need a new engine for my 1990 gs. It was from a parted bike and supposedly has about 7k on it. I never ran the motor so I have no idea of its condition..so buyer beware.
