Title: Question : 1989 GS500E Petcock rubbing off carbs
Post by: Madmike on May 20, 2007, 05:37:29 PM
Hi guys , I hauled the fuel tank off my 1989 GS500E for painting and repair about a week ago. Anyhow, the tank is back now, painted / repaired. Myself and a friend went to put the tank back on today and I have to say holy cow - the fuel petcock was rubbing something fierce off one of the carbs - it really needed some persuasion / forcing to get it to fit. We were both in the sweats - that type of jamming can't be healthy on the tank and petcock. Anyhow its on, but I just wanted to get you guys experience. This bike was bought used recently by me. So we don't know if the tank is possibly twisted in some way or the frame - just slightly enough to cause this. Anyhow, the tank is back on, I'm just concerned on how it rubs off the black cover on the carb. Its rubbing the carb somethin fiierce...

Please help with your input guys...

Mike

You may have a wrong petcock on it.
The stock tank petcock is tiny and has 2 lines out of it and one small knob that can be operated with a screw driver. No vacuum.
Cool.
