Title: Bad day ... Poor GS
Post by: groff22 on May 21, 2007, 03:46:42 PM
Argh. What a bad day. I was trying to get to the air filter, to change it out...  my tank was not bolted on, but it was connected... I lost my footing trying to put it on the center stand... and over the bike went... I couldn't stop it... Gas tank fell off entirely, and unplugged itself from one of the petcocks ... gas everwhere before I could turn off the tiny screw on the bottom ...  I have a brake lever that is bent to sh!t ... and my leg has a gusher on it from some piece of metal that decided scrape the sh!t out of it...

Bummer dude. It's a bad day when you Pandy your bike, it's worse when you spill blood when you Pandy your bike.

Always make sure the bike is on the center stand BEFORE you start working on it.

Yeah, you're right bubba... my conscious crept in for a few seconds before I decided to put my bike on the stand, just long enought to predict the future ... Until, I dismissed it...  i've put the bike on the stand 1000 times... anyway, bike seems ok ... GOnna try to fix the brake lever tomorrow

Well, Luckily I have an oil change and other stuff going on so the fairings were off :) ... the scratch on my plastics is from 2 years ago when I Pandy'd it in my driveway...

I so yeah, I'll start her up tomorrow (hopefully) to see if she runs ok.

Cheers,
J

When I dropped my bike, my handlebars got bumped out of place by about an inch. Before I mess anything else up, how do you get the little metal bits out of the handlebars to get to the screws? Do they just pop out to reveal the bolts?

How tight should the bolts be when I'm done adjusting the bars? (Long shot, I know... but appreciated if someone knows)

Cheers,
J

sorry about the drop, but look at this way, if the engine was hot from a ride, it could of become a hot fire ball... so in the end it wasnt as bad as it could of ended up.

needed stiches on that leg ?

I popped all 4 out, and all 4 broke. They're plastic, not metal.  Good luck keeping them intact.

Ok, I srinathed my bike last night... real good too...  :thumb:

It's the first time the bike has been started since November (due to dealership F#$king me around with parts, etc)... it runs well.

I didn't realize those were plastic bits, and thought they were much larger than just a small cap... Probably could have taken them off with an exacto knife. I ended up breaking 2/4 of them... the remaining two are fine. Anyway, the handlebar bolts didn't seem to be that tight, maybe 10lbs tops. So after adjusting  the bar I put them back to about the same spec.

The leg is healing too (no stitches), just itchyness & irritation when I walk and my pant leg rubs against it.

Cheers,
J
