Title: Changing Chain and Sprockets on 2001 GS 500
Post by: senior micro on May 22, 2007, 01:39:21 PM
Anybody out there got helpful hints on Changing the chain and sprockets on my 01 GS500? I bought the best chain I could find and have ordered the sprockets. Is this one of those jobs that will leave me cursing and wishing I had brought it to the shop?

You don't need a chain tool, you just need an ax: see here (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=35357.0)

If you don't like that, here's some advice on changing the sprokets (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=32013.0)

You can buy a kit from most moto shops that includes a chain breaker and a master-link press.

If you're *not* changing the sprockets, you can thread the new chain through by attaching it to the old chain...

But, it's best to change the sprockets while you're in there.
