Hey all,
It's been a while since i last posted, Gs is now 6.5 mths old and 17,000kms on the clock, took a look at my fromt tyre and its wearing fast! got me wondering what life do they generally have, and what Tyres do you use?
At present the tyres are the standard issue, and i have been told to look at bridgestones?? what say you.....?
Old Man
Wow, 17,000k's in a bit over 6 months.
I put Pirelli sport demons on mine & they're a great tyre. It all depends on what type of riding you do, as the pirelli are more of a sports tyre than commuting tyre. :thumb:
I've only ever used Dunlop Arrowmax's on my GS. Last set the front got 20k odd clicks, and the rear got 10ish thou. The rear on their now is due for replacement soon, but seems to keep on ticking away and hasn't hit the wear markers in the middl yet, it's got 13 thou on it (I think).
Next set of tyres I'm going for a set of Sport Demon's for a change, I still do alot of commuting on the bike (250km/week) but that's likely to change once I get a car/license).
wow 17,000km in that amount of time :thumb: hats off...
I've done 600km in two weeks, better be up-ing my km count :icon_lol:
I use the BT45's they are a good middle of the road tyre not sporty but not garbage :thumb:
So where did you guys get your tyres from and how much were they?
bit off topic but in north america we spell tyres tires. do you guys spell works as "werks"? as in working at a job. or werking at a job
No we spell work, work. But colour has a U and gaol has no J or I.
i have the Michelin Pilot Activ. i cannot wait it looks like a great tire.
Price, Point of Sale?
i got my rear tire from motorcycle-superstore.com
all i bought was a rear tire and it was $111.00 shipped.

It says they don't ship overseas? :dunno_white:
I got a Pirelli Sport Demon 140/70 rear fitted a month ago, seems to go alright so far. That said I've had a rear slide or two, but I think that was more the broken filter cover stud pissing out oil than the tyre
Cost about $149+fitting iirc, it also seems more rounded than the old Dunflop GT501 (Arrowmax) 140/70 it replaced, I can't hit the edge of this one (yet).
Shinko Vs Bridgestone Battleax Bt.
Well ive finally got to the point where Im about to put new tyres on and have the choice of Shinko or Bridgestone. I have gotten 25,400kms out of my current Bts, can anyone give any info on the life/performance of Shinkos?
Cheers, Old Man.
Hi all,
Just put new Bt Battleaxes's on, i went with what i know as too many have bagged Shinkos, (apparently Shinkos come standard on Hyosungs?)
The other option was DunlopArrows? dont know much about them either :dunno_white:
Anyway i got 26,400kms out of them, the rear had .2mm before the wear bar but also had a flat spot over 1 bar that was well and truly worn, the front was interesting from the point that it wasnt down to the wear bars anywhere around the tyre, but was uneven around the edges, i didnt notice any lack of grip in the wet but it was definatley not a smooth ride. Once i had put the new tyres on it was immediatly apparent that the old tyres were on the way out.
For anyone in the Western Sydney area i bought the tyres from Whites Racing Products, they are 'based' in Leumeah, the Tyres cost me $270.00 fitted on the bike and that was $45 bucks cheaper than 2 other local suppliers, (the only drawback for some might be that you need to go Leumeah after work hours as they run the business from a Truck! those that race might already know Craig White.) for more info goto: www.wrp.net.au (EDIT: just tried this, didnt work for me, try calling on 0413 461 353)
Cheers Old Man
I just got a rear BT-45 130/70/17 from Sydney City Motorcycles at their new Campbelltown store on Blaxland Road.
$150 (free fitting if you bring just the rim in) otherwise an addition $35

and boy is she going to have a decent set of chicken strips on her after ya trip.... \___/
how many kays you get outta the old one?
I only paid $140 for my Pirelli SD in 140/70/17
Yeah by the time he gets back he'll probably panic at the first set of twisties, maybe a car tyre would be more suitable.
Yeah they're not going to look pretty.
I told the shop I was about to do a 10,000km trip.
The first salesman told me I should get the pirellis because they're awesome tyres. I quickly asked for a new salesman :cookoo:
The new salesman and I decided together that the Battleaxe are probably the best way to go again. Considering their dual compound (harder in the middle, softer on the edges) and cheapish price.
I managed 13,500kms on my old BT45
A few long trips had squared it off a fair bit, probably could have pushed it to 14,500 but I thought I'd be best to get these now and wear them in a touch before the trip.
The new tyres feel so much more progressive when cornering... its going to be a shame to square them off again :(
P.S. I noticed today that they scratched my rim in a few places when fitting my tyre
Also the tyre says BT45R. My OEM tyre didn't have the "R" on it. Interesting.

not sure what the R is for exactly but Rear maybe?
my K7 500f stock rear tyre is the same BT45R if that helps any :dunno_white:
04 with original rubber & it's got the R.

Well, I went with BT's and now have wornout the bts [22,000kms] and then went with Shinko rear and Metzler front, the result was 24,570kms BUT the shinko was very hard and when braking in the wet was always trying to 'overtake' the front,[so i wont be going with shinko ever again] but the metzler was still not down to the wear bars could have gone another 3,000kms i reckon, any way I would like to stick Metzler front and rear next time. Has anyone gone that way? any comments??
Old Man
Sorry cant help with the metzler. I have trouble finding anything but bt45 or sports demons locally. Know any ok tire places that work on weekends? I had bt45 which lasted 18 000 kms before I changed. I put sport demons on and got 16 000kms but really need a new rear and the front does not have a real lot of kms left.
