Title: my first accident today.... : (
Post by: z315 on May 24, 2007, 07:29:53 PM
Today I laid my bike down while making a u turn at my school parking lot... right side plastics are scratched up pretty bad and the turn signal is smashed. pipe and engine case is damanged and that "suzuki" plate came off.. bar ends is also scracted.. but overall mainly all comedic  damages... i am so sad... but i guess the better question is where can i find replacement parts and what are some good effective ways to make my bike look like new again?

eBay, or buy new from the dealer.

Or just deal with it, like the rest of us. I have honestly never seen a GS without some sort of damage to it. No big deal, they hold up really well.

glad you're ok and didn't do anything major like hurt yourself. if you want used then look here or ebay. if you want new then go to a dealership.

I'm definitely sorry to hear about your misfortune, and glad that you didn't get hurt, but I sooo wish I could see your comedic damages...

As far as the parts, I think someone was selling turn signals in the classified section, and as Alpha said, I think everyone has some form of engine case damage.  Do you think you may be able to sand out the scratches on the plastics, or should you just go naked?

What happened to YOU?
Did you just sort of fall onto the pavement?
I crashed in Nov. and am still getting my hand fixed.
The plastic (for my Concours) was unbelievably expensive.

I assume you're OK- good

Haha I wasn't really paying attention to my spelling when I made the post. Ok, here's what exactly happened:

It's about 7:30 in the morning and I am moving down the parking lot and into a private parking area . So I have to go all the way down the public parking and do a U  turn to get in. So as I was performing the u turn, I am guessing I was traveling about 5MPH, I was turning pretty tight, and all of a sudden it slid under me and I am on the floor and my bike is sliding away from me and stop about 10 feet away give or take. I got up, still in shock of what just happened, picked up the bike and cursed like there's no tomorrow. I shall post some pictures tomorrow once there's daylight.

Thank Goodness I was wearing my protective gear and had only a minor scrapes on my right knee.

btw: the u-turns (actually a figure 8, left hand u-turn then right hand u-turn) has to be done inside the 15 foot 6 inch width box  :icon_confused:

Sorry to hear about your bike, glad your ok thats what really matters.  Sometimes www.oneidasuzuki.com will have sales on  the plastics but be watch their shipping charges and they are a bit slow in shipping.  Another place I found with decent prices was www.crotchrocket.com good think is the fairings come pre-painted and don't forget to buy the decals also.

See this is what I don't understand, I done those U turns before, sometimes even harder. Whenever I am bored and got nothing better to do, i always take my GSF to a community college parking lot just to pratice U-Turns, quick stops, and other fun stuff just to sharpen my skills. I checked my tire pressure and them seemed fine, so i guess the answer to my accident was dirt.... guess the stock tires isn't that sticky... : (

Yeah, if you've done the turn many times before, seems like there may have been dirt/sand/slippery liquid there... you'll have to check that out

Sometimes shaZam! just happens,  as long as you're alive, you'll know how to deal with the situation better next time.

I almost dropped the Daytona this week too, I rode to get a haircut and I didn't wear my helmet (1/4 mile ride), so I felt like a badass.  I get to the barber and kick the side stand down... turns out it didn't get all the way down, I go to rest it on the stand and it doesn't stop.  I had to REALLY muscle it to keep her upright, I was embarrassed as hell, but managed to keep ahold of it.  I'm never going to rest it again without knowing for certain that she's stable... live and learn.  We all f%$k up, don't let it drag you down, as Alpha said, don't think of the damage as ugly, it gives the bike character.  Do you want a show bike or something that has seen action on the front lines?  Ok, after that line, I'm clearly drunk, off to bed.
