This is the luckiest guy around.

That was intense! :o
the first time i took my gs into a canyon i went on a weekday afternoon to make sure if i took a turn to wide or sharp i wouldnt get hit by another car. but jeese that guy is one of the luckiest idiors ive ever met.
what the hell happened?
i guy gets target fixation and goes way wide in a turn on the ACH. he somehow avoids being hit by traffic too :o. but ye ai coudnt tell if you(mach1) were asking about the whole clip or just the near accident part so yeah... :kiss3:
:o :o f%$k :o :o Just f%$k :o :o I would have been roadkill :o
Holy Hell!!!! Thats scared me and I wasnt even on the bike!
I hope that never happens to me, but geeze, he came in way too hot. He is lucky that truck/trailer combo wasn't comming around the corner. He would have nailed that trailer. That happend to a guy with a Super Hawk here in KC. He was able to avoid the truck, hit the trailer and died. That sucks. That's why you don't need to be a hero in the twisties. Stay in your lane, for the love of God.
:o geeeeeeze...... your supposed to focus on the stripe on your RIGHT!!!! friggin moron.
That's the scariest clip I've seen.
The first time I saw that clip I was leaning in my seat... LEAN! LEAN! LEAN!!!! LEAN YOU IDIOT!!!!!
Phew... Glad it wasn't me.
I dont think he went in too hot, Im sure the bike could have made it through. It looks like he just thought he was too hot tried to slow down but then fixated on the car in the other lane and then it all went downhill from there.
Probably just didn't realize that he could lean more or hang off.... Maybe he was like I am on my new scoot... Total sissy that doesn't know what the bike can do.
I scraped a peg once and have been wimping out on every corner since then.......

That's my take on the situation. If you get into a corner too hot, don't just panic and stand her up and lay on the brakes, odds are good that the tires will stick way more than you think they will (assuming you have decent rubber). I ran into a spot like this down at Deal's Gap, I said a VERY short prayer and tightened my line, it held and I'm still here... and now I ride much slower on the street.
... And even if your tires don't stick, it's better to low-side than high-side...
I can't believe he was able to keep it upright once he went off the asphalt. That's like a miracle.
The first time I saw that was right after the time i went into a corner a little fast, not hot and there was a deer right in my path. I went around the dear started coming back and the deer ran at me. I fixated on not antlers and hit a ditch. Then i picked my bike up and threw rocks ar the deer till it ran away. The hole time being watched from the porch by sveral rednecks drinking beer....laughing.
He was just going to fast fixated on the car and went right to it. The rest was good luck.
Obviously he was going fast but he could have made that turn at the speed he was going. He just fixated on the car and not the turn. He had a lot more lean to go before he would have dragged his peg.
That was crazy. I think I need to be a little more wary on the new SVS.

Don't let that video get to you, as Foobar said, he was WELL within the limits of that motorcycle, that was ENTIRELY rider error. I'm not saying don't be cautious, because you absolutely should be, but that was not due to his bike not being able to handle it, he f%&ked up.
every time i go for a ride in the twisties, the first 6 or 7 turns i have to keep reminding myself you can lean farther, watch as far around the corner as you can, etc. etc. then i fall into the rhythm and can pick up the pace from there. but i guess he checked the size of his balls AFTER he twisted the throttle...

I agree. I just meant that I need to treat the SV with a little more respect than I may want to. At least until I can ride her like the GS. It's a completely different feel to me.
Odd observation and maybe mental, but scrubbing the tires in for 100 miles .... the bike really seemed to handle differently around mile 102 - not squiggly in the turns at all. That just me? Or is 100mi really the magic # for new tires?
The real magic will come when you lose those D220 rocks from the factory and get some Michellin Pilot Sports. I recommend that you not wait for the D220s to wear out. They don't stick worth a crap, so they don't wear quickly.
And so the stream of money pouring over a new bike begins :icon_mrgreen:
anytime I see a clip like that or some pics of road rash it makes me very nervous to get back on the bike. But I have to tell myself that if I ride within my limits and try to anticipate every move that dumb@$$ in an SUV is going to make, then I feel alright. But it really makes me nervous.

Everything that you have mentioned comes with the territory. Just be viligent and ride at the spped that your inner voice feels safe with. If you find youself clutching the grips as if you are about to fall off a cliff, slow down a bit and get comfortable. You will get the hang of it and the nervousness will eventually go away, but don't ever let your guard down cause thats when things happen. And wear gear, in the event that something does happen not having to grow skin back always helps.
