Title: f%$k
Post by: spc on May 25, 2007, 10:13:02 PM
I'm writing this with one hand because I broke the thumb on my other hand   some dickwad changed into my lane and slammed straight into me   I went flying.  I don't know how bad the gs is but it didnt look to rough,  needs a left side engine cover :dunno_white:  My helmet saved my life :thumb:  and my jacket saved me roadrash over an estimated 30% of my body :thumb: thank god for gear.  My damage: shattered thumb carpal :o shattered pinky to, fractured shoulder, one little spot of road rash on my forarm and a nice hunk on my knee and several deep gouges on one ankle.  I'm on demerol, loritabs and flexeril right now so I'm goin to sleep

Moral of the story: wear you f%$king gear!!!!!

We have to look for them.   :icon_confused:  But, I must say that FREAKING LOUD PIPES do help people notice you...   A little.

But, even with a bright-freakin'-ORANGE bike... YELLOW gear...  DAMN LOUD Straight pipes....  I've still had lots of people try to drive through me.

Man, that's a tough time you got. Glad to hear you're riding safe and geared up, it's proven again the value of just a few peices of equipment vs road rash. You'll likely get plenty of help from the great guys here with setting up your girl again.

On the driver of the cage:

Did he stop for the accident and have insurance ? Will you be sueing ? Was he apologetic or typically abusive and condescending ?

Be carefull with those med's ;)

Get well!
I'm still going through therapy for my mangled finger from my November crash.

MY ADVICE- make sure you get two opinions, especially for fingers!  I learned the hard way.
Hand and finger work is a SPECIALTY!  Don't mess around- make sure it's done right!  The bone doctor doesn't know about hands.

Hope everything works out for you.   :)

The guy ran    but the police and hospital said that UM should pay for everything :thumb:  I go to see the ortho doc tuesday :icon_confused:  the guy in ER said I might need a pin  If that happens they are gonna have to remove it, or my ass is out to dry as far as re-enlisting.  It's two fairly clean fractures.  the shoulder isnt bad, not even a full fracture just a partial hairline.  Doc said absolutely no two wheels for atleast 2.5 months, maybe longer depending on what the ortho doc says.  I'm thinking this will be a great time to strip the ol gs down and rebuild everything.........hmmmm.......wonder if ducatiboy still has that engine?  my right arm is ok despite the shoulder, doc said just no heavy objects :thumb:  I went back to the ER this AM for them to just make sure I was alright.  I got a massive shot of demerol :thumb: and I still have a couple demerol pills.  gotta get up soon and go to walgreens to get my loritab prescrip..........damn I'm sore......I gotta find my old flexeril's :icon_confused:  I can go get my bike tuesday :o god I hope she's alright.  didnt flip or anything just skidded until the engine case got a hole in it.

Man that sucks at least it wasn't worse, A guy at work recently got merged on by a car, went for a short slide that was ended by another car running him over.  Heal well and everyone watch for asshats that pull out in front of bikers, its already happened to me about a dozzen times this year......

Learning and staying diligent about lane placement, guarding your lane, staying visible, etc. really cut down on the number of times I've been cut off this season.  There are books about this, worth picking up.

"F^&K" it is ... damn ... your thumb will be back to normal right ??? That would be good news. Even old people like me will heal up, young kids especially fit ones like you should be good.
But I guess you really recover by buying something cool with the ins money ...  :thumb:
Cool.

yeah, gotta see what they will shell out......and if the gs is repairable.  doc says if i dont go with surgery it will probably limit my use of the thumb :icon_confused: but if i do let em cut me they'll wanna leave a pin in there which will blow any hope of a SF career :icon_confused: we'll see tuesday for sure.  I looked at the thumb x-ray and it looks pretty  f%&ked up  but I'm not a doc so.........
I went back to the ER to get a heavier scrip, loritabs weren't cuttin it :o  they gave me 30 meperdine/promethezine 50/25.......said it's just pill form demerol..shaZam! works so it's OK in my book :thumb:

ya know I made it to 18 withoput any major injuries since then I've had 11 concussions, several broken toes/fingers ( always metacarpal/metatarsal, though )  staples in my head twice, almost completey severed my right middle finger....yeah thhats about it :o

I'm not a big fan of the MSF anymore, good courses but it has become too much of a business, that is beside the point though, they are the ones responsible for this book and it's excellent.  At only $20, it's a good deal too, just might save your ass:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1884313477/ref=pd_cp_b_0/102-6841604-0632166?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_r=0EYHFTZTTYXFDXNYG8E9&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=252362401&pf_rd_i=1884313019

David Hough writes a column for Motorcycle Consumer News, which is an AWESOME magazine that everyone should subscribe to, this is his book ABSOLUTELY worth a read:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1889540536/ref=pd_cp_b_1/102-6841604-0632166?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_r=0QP2VGRT1TWZJ9V21QZQ&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=252362401&pf_rd_i=1884313477

A lot of people I know swear by Keith Code's Twist of the Wrist Series, while I found it's theory to be helpful and it was certainly informative, most of it is geared towards track riding or racing and not particularly geared towards street riding, so check out the other two books first.  When you're done with them, pass them on to another new rider.
Ride safe.

hit and run when bodily injury is involved carries a minimum 3 years incarceration :o   Just got back from surgery ( put two pins in my thumb )  doc said everything went really well and I should  be able to get em out in 3 weeks then another 3 weeks in plaster :o  said even best case it'll be 3-4 months before I'm cleared to ride

You'll be right ride once things are mended.  :thumb:

I have a plate in my right wrist from a bike accident 11 years ago. I had to have my wrist reconstructed & the plate put in to hold every thing together was left in. I had nearly six months off work & have 30% loss of movement in the wrist & hand. I got back on a bike 4 years after the accident, so you'll be fine sunshine.

Get well soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was off my bike for three months since Nov. for just a broken hand and mangled finger.  Seemed like a long time then.  It will pass, though.

Think twice about a Duc- antiquated valve system, and complicated to adjust.  Desmo valves served a purpose but we have better valve springs now.  Beautiful machines though!

Oh hell, get one.  I wish I wasn't such a cheap old bastard.  I would get one- an ST3.

Actually, you need a special tool, but they really are not that complicated to adjust... certainly easier than 4 valve per cylinder models.  The 2V bike has less valves to adjust and it is easier to get to the valve train on 2V bikes.  Not really any harder than the GS, from what I've seen from Kerry's video and the Duc video... the problem is the frequency that you need to check them 6k miles vs 12k and higher... at least compared to newer bikes like SV650, EX650, etc.  Of course, we know it's 4k with the GS!!! Of course... I won't do either myself LOL... I'd be cursing like the Father on Christmas story... LOL

SPCTerry, sorry about your accident dude... hope you are OK!
