Title: Really Cheap GS500 (was; Free GS500)
Post by: dionysus on May 30, 2007, 12:54:50 PM
My wife and i were on our 2004 gs500 sunday and got hit by an suv. now we need to get rid of the bike before the impound lot robs us blind. no idea what condition it's in most likly still runs, but the first person that's willing to pick it up from san leandro, ca gets it. i'm hoping to get the 355 we currently owe, but i really just want to get rid of it.

call 951 201 9122 if you want it  i wont be checking this post. we have the title.

Nope, not gone yet. Damn. The guy that came out to pick it up apparently can't make the decisions for the salvage place. The bike runs. If you can be in san leandro, ca (thats by oakland in the sf bay area) and want a project bike, please give me a call ASAP. The shop closes at 5PM, that's 1.5h from now. They say something like $500 will get it all running again. I just want the thing gone.

What happened with insurance?  Don't you have any?  How about the SUV driver?

Update on the bike: a coworker is picking it up in a truck, and since it's worth a lot more than the $350 we're spending, we'll try to sell it for that and just walk away.

I had liability only, which would be fine, but it was a hit and run, so financially I'm just hopeing to get away from this around $0 without a bike. Since th thing still runs, I'm shocked it's so difficult. I have very good medical insurance, so that's not going to be an issue. We're just on a time crunch due to their silly $55/day fee for a few square feet of flooring. We were willing to eat the 350 (its really not that much) just to be done with the whole thing. But having two people back out after sending my dad on an 1h drive each way, I'm a bit pissed off.

The whole thing sounds too good to be true to me.
And when something sounds too good to be true...
What's with the "have to get rid of it so quickly" thing?
It just sounds suspicious.

I'm guessing this was the accident...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/baycitynews/archive/2007/05/27/motorcycle27.DTL (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/baycitynews/archive/2007/05/27/motorcycle27.DTL)

The bike was stuck at the impound lot, accumulating daily fees.  Today he got out of the hospital, still with some injuries and unable to get the bike from the lot.  This afternoon a friend picked it up from the lot, so it's no longer urgent to move it, but it's still a totaled bike without an insurance check to cover it.  Hence the sale.

This was my understanding from a phone conversation earlier today.

If you don't believe me that's fine, don't. We're wanting to get rid of it quickly because I'm stuck in bed and my wife is in constant pain because of it, and we just want the entire thing to be over. We're willing to sell it for the towing+impound feeds because we don't want it, we don't want to repair it and we don't want to deal with having it repaired. If we have it repaired, then sell it we might make a few hundred extra and we'll spend way to much time dealing with things we'd rather not deal with.

Anyone that's not interested in calling us liers, this forum is a big part of why we got the GS500 to begin with and all things being equal, we'd rather see it go to someone here.

To rant a little bit, We're pissed off with the bike, people, the automotive industry, etc becuase we were laying there broken and bleeding on the freeway while people drove right by us and gawked. We're pissed because some @$$hole in an SUV/Truck hit us and ran. And now we're pissed, because we try to do something nice, hoping our loss can be someone else gain, and some @$$hole calls us a lier.

Sanjay, yes that looks to be us. Though, the article doesn't mention my wife.

If shipping it wouldn't decimate me, I'd buy it from you for impound + towing fees... I hope you find a buyer quickly, and hope you both heal up. I also hope the cager bought bad bridgestone tires, and they explode at 90mph, sending him into a fiery flip of death off of a cliff, into a canyon full crushed glass. (Pretty graphic, eh?)

I have this theory about what to do with dickweed cagers: it involves me, a ka-bar, an IV to keep  em alive as long as possible and salt :icon_twisted:

Hey dionysus,
Don't be mad at me, bub.
I'm sorry for your accident and your misfortune, but your original post really didn't give much in the way of details about why you were in this predicament in the first place.
I didn't accuse you of anything, including lying. What I said was that people should be skeptical of something that sounds too good to be true.
That's good advice, and if you hadn't just gone through your recent accident and been sitting there in pain and anger alongside your crunched up motorcycle, you probably would have agreed with me.
I hope you and your wife recover quickly and that the police somehow are able to find the idiot who ran off after the accident.
But in the meantime, calling me an @$$hole is ridiculous.
Best wishes to you and I hope you feel better soon.
Yours,
Todd

Hey jen_! Thanks.

trwhouse, you're right. People generally suck, and are out to rip everyone else off. Your advise is good, I just took it a bit personally because of the lousy week we've been having.

Another update: looks like the police did get a plate number and a name, and arrested the guy that was driving. we'll need to hold onto the bike for a while, and we're not sure what's going to happen with it then. If it looks like we'll be disposing of it, we'll update this thread again.

Thanks for everyones concern.

Just read this thread...  Good to hear you're reasonably OK.

I'm not suprised that people kept on driving after your crash.  I found total disrespect and a complete lack of humanity nearly everywere I've been in CA.

Get that little shaZam! put in jail for a long time.

Ditto on what An said ... it sucks when you have to suffer for someone else's f*ck-up , and then they won't even own up to it

One fo the neighbors picked all the kids up from the bus stop a couple thursdays ago ... she left the minivan doors open and was letting the kids hang their feet out . My daughter was told not to ride with those people (she's 9yo , it's an 8 house walk to our house , AND she usually rides with either my wife or her best friend's mom right across the street) and was the only kid in the seat , trying to fasten her seatbelt as the lady took off . One of the other kids pulled my daughter down to get her by the door near the other kids . She got pushed OUT of the van , drug for approx. 30ft , then the back wheel caught her foot and pulled her loose , running her foot over and taking a golfball sized hunk of skin off her heel . She was in Children's Hospital for 7 days and will be on crutches for her whole summer break ... she also lost her "perfect attendance" at school due to this .
The driver kept telling the paramedics "it's just a scrape" and "if it were real bad her shoe would be torn up" ... her shoe WAS torn up , but the lady had picked it up off the street and stuffed it in my kid's backpack  We know a local DFS person ... they said the lady's house was NASTY (there were cat feces on the children's BEDS ! ) , and that she may have to go to classes and have routine inspections in order to keep her childen . I signed a paper from the police saying I wasn't pressing criminal charges ( before I learned of her hiding the shoe and stuff) because I knew the lady has 2 kids she has to raise , plus I have to live near these people , but DFS took the accident pics and the wound pics and turned them into the Proscecuting Attny & the Sherrif's Dept and are pressing charges on their own

I've just noticed how long i've been ranting hehe ... sorry, don't mean to threadjack , but it just PISSES ME OFF when people harm others and don't take responsibility . I truly feel for you guys and hope for a speedy recovery , as well as the most severe punishment possible for this d*ckweed that hit you guys

Just know that on average , people suck , but it's not everyone ... there's a few of us out here that DO care about others and we gotta watch each other's backs . I wish there was something I could personally do to help ya out , but i'm in St Louis . If ever in St Louis , send me a PM ... i'll take you guys out for dinner or something  :thumb:

-Eric

Just thought I'd follow this up saying the bikes' gone. Or going to be at least. We paid $4400 for it new, and it has $7400 in damage... Of course, a ton of that is because the subframe is really the frame and doesn't stand up to a truck hitting it all that well. Oh well, thanks everyone!

That'd rock if the insurance company would cut you a $7400 check for your GS hehe ... you guys deserve that and more  :dunno_white:

dionysus:

I can't believe I missed this entire thread. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad they caught the scumbag. He needs to be put away for a LONG time (after he gets a good beat down ). I hope he makes someone in jail a lovely bride.

I hope you and your wife have been healing up, and I hope you'll keep us updated!!!  :kiss3:
