The other day I went riding and stopped at a restaraunt to have a bite to eat. When I went to start my bike and leave it wouldn't start. Weird, because it was running fine before I shut it down. I checked, had spark, fuel was getting to the carbs. I was stumped. So I called my buddy to come pick me and my bike up with his truck. I kept looking and eventually, the problem jumped right out at me. The rubber intakes that the carbs attatch to going into the engine, had both ripped and the carbs were hanging down. There was a huge gap between the carbs and engine. My friend who was riding with me had a bottle of sunscreen, so we wedged it under the K&N lunchbox and limped home. I have some pictures of the set up, pretty funny. But it held all the way home. The old rubber and the weight of the carbs and lunchbox just were too much. Will the new parts fix it for good? Or is there some way I should support the lunchbox?
When I had a lunchbox it didn't need any sort of support, and I haven't seen anyone else on here complaining of the lunchbox being too heavy...
Probably just the old rubber.
yeah i'd say get new rubber bootsies...

What year is your bike? Mine never actually stopped running but I did find a worn-out boot when I was removing the carbs to clean them. Once you replace the boots your problem will be fixed for probably another 15 years... I got mine at prosourcemotorsports.com-- seems to be a reliable source for GS500 parts.
Sorry, look on schematic list under cylinder head -- pipe assy (intake). They are about $15 apiece. It might not be easy to get the screws out. I keep a needle-nose vise-grip handy. Have fun.
I have a '96 and both the intakes ripped completely in half. I saw them online for $17, but I was thinking of stopping by the local dealer. Would they have them in stock? I doubt it.

Nice pic! I have not had any luck with parts for my '90 at my local dealer. It will cost you a little more to go through them, but they may be able to get the parts in less time... Looks like you got the screws out easy enough ;)
Yeah, the screws came out pretty easily. I think I will just go ahead and order them online. I was only wanting to go to the dealer so I could get them quicker, like the same day. But I don't think they would have them in stock, it's a pretty small dealer.
