I'm installing a k&n lunchbox, vance and hines full exhaust, ignition advancer is in the mail from Bob Brousard to here, 15 tooth sproket, rejeting with 150/40/2 washers. I got 145 mains also just in case i need them. Anyhow.
I'm trying to do the work myself. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but haven't worked much on carberators or motorcycles. I'm using mikes rejetting pictoral to kinda guide me through. http://www.angelfire.com/mt2/mikesgs500/rejetting/
My problem is I stipped one of the bolt's on the bottom of the carb that hold the float bowl on. The ?brass? ones that are really easy to strip. Anyone else had this problem? Whats my best option on getting this off? A friend of mine has a motorcycle mechanic and I'm thinking about just taking the whole carb to him and letting him put the jets in and then reinstalling myself but i'd rather do it myself cause I already spent alot of money on mods. Let me know what ya think. Also will a hardware store carry those things or do I have to get ripped off by the dealer?

I use left handed drill bits to remove them screws if they strip.
5mm dia, 12 mm length or 16 mm length allen head screws from home depot types work. You can also use machine thread 10-32 I believe in the same 12 or 16 mm length and they are available in stainless if you so wish at home depot. Be very very careful to not over tighten. Shorth end of allen wrench for gripping and leverage only. If it doesn;t seal with that pressure, your gaskets are toast or you need a sealant on the float bowls mating face.
I also will do all of it myself ... OK fine, have someone else do it while you watch ... close second.
Cool.

I think I had to extract about 4. As far as using other sizes Im not sure I had some screws left over from the carbs from my car I was taking apart to trash and just used them.
