Title: someone explain this to me...
Post by: makenzie71 on May 31, 2007, 02:10:54 AM
...cuz I think it's God's way of saying 'be a dirty boy".

I work at a cattle feedyard.  That means that at the end of the day I smell like a cattle feedyard...that's to say I smell like 34,000 cows worth of cow shaZam!.  I get off about 4am so there's not much to do after work except eat and sleep or other work.  Now, on the evenings that I have time to eat and sleep I prefer to bathe before sleeping.  Enter the problem...

If i bathe before I go to bed, I wake up in the morning feeling like total shaZam!.  Sinuses are stuffed.  Head's pounding.  Joints and muscles ache.  Eye's full of crusty shaZam!.  My breath is even worse.  I feel like I haven't slept at all even if I get a good 10 hours worth.

On the other hand, if I go home and crash without bathing then I can sleep four hours and feel like a million bucks.

it's annoying.  I've started sleeping on a pallet on the floor so my bed doesn't get all smelly.  what the hell's up with this?

Hmmmm.
Allergies maybe?
I can't sleep with the windows open at night or I get seriously stuffed up sinuses.

There are more issues here than simply the bathing or not.  Try sleeping LESS than ten hours.  My allergies give me hell if I stay in bed longer than 8 hours.

Maybe wipe down with a damp towel before you go to bed.  And wash you hair in the sink.

Brushing your teeth might help, too.

i brush my teeth.  And i try to sleep less...I just wake up completely exhausted.  I slept a little 7 hours last night and feel like utter crap.

I used to think maybe allergies...but either way I sleep with my face buried in the same pillows and bed.

+1 sounds like thats worth a shot.

Also, if you do shower before bed start w/ fairly hot water for a min or two then turn it to cold for a min and back to hot... That will improve your blood circulation and should make for better sleep  :thumb:

Here is a link.. They say to do it 7 times  :o I find just one or two works for me  :thumb:

I like how they say: "use it at the end of the night to get an unusually restful night's sleep."

This going to sound retarded but wash you pillow cases and before you put them back on the pillows put a trashbag over the pillows that you sleep on and tie it shut the best you can without deforming the pillows.  Then put the pillow cases back on.  If you wake up feeling better then it could be something that has gotten into your pillows causing your sinuses to explode.  The shower just might help to aggervate them.

I've tried the strip thingies and they work great when my allergies are acting up...but they have no effect on the shower/no shower thing.  I'll try the hot/cold thing next week (weekend = no shower til tomorrow morning and no sleep til Saturday morning...bleh...).

I bought hypoallergenic pillows and cases not too long ago to try and fight this and it had no effect.

Perhaps you're allergic to your soap or shampoo?

ok, most don't have those so you should be ok there, you might try using different soaps as Egaeus has said.

I sleep like shaZam! if I shower right before bed too...  Usually I can't go to sleep... Then I can't stay asleep.  I think I'm just programmed that a shower means waking up.

BUT, if I shower a couple hours before bed, I'm usually OK.

I don't really get it either.   :dunno_white:

For me it's very uncomfortable to try to sleep with wet hair.  I just can't do it.  Maybe that's the case with you as well?  :dunno_white:

i can't sleep with wet hair unless it's long enough that I can tie it back.  I bought a blow dryer because I thought maybe I just wasn't getting it dry enough and was giving me chills in my sleep but it doesn't matter how dry it is.

Vert, I'm the same in the fact that if I wait a few hours I have no problems...but not getting home until 4~5am means waiting that long isn't an option.

I'm still thinking allergies.
I'm allergic to cats, dogs, (have both) tree pollen, house dust, and shrimp. :dunno_white:

I actually sleep better if I shower before bed. I'm bald, so its easy to dry my head. :icon_mrgreen:

In order to get them under control, I ended up on zyrtec and an inhaler for the bad attacks.

The biggest help was getting rid of all the carpet in my house. I went with a laminate flooring. And putting Hypoallergenic covers on my bed mattress and pillow.

All of this hit suddenly about a 18 months ago. I've been seeing an allergist for about 1 year. The meds brought small but steady relief. However, when I got rid of the carpet there was a major improvement almost immediately.

Now if I miss the meds for a couple of days I don't really feel that bad. I think the carpet had become loaded down with dust and my system got overloaded to the point where my body went kinda nuts for a while.

Sorry for the long post, but maybe what I went through will help.

If you have old carpet (4 years or more) In good ole humid and dusty Oklahoma, It makes a great petri dish for growing all kinds of neat stuff that you can be allergic to.

Hope it helps.
PJ.

Mak I think the answer is clear here... you have to either 1) give up showering and smell or 2) give up sleeping... personally I think option 2 will be far more amusing for the rest of us

pastrana...haha I already don't sleep.

Egaeus...if I were allergic to my soap, wouldn't I suffer the effects no matter when I bathed?  Also, I've changed brands of soap pretty regularly over the last several years...from whatever's $.80 at wal-mart to the expensive crap Kalee has to have...same effect.

Not necessarily.  If it's something that irritates your mucous membranes, it might just be because you're lying there breathing it all night, instead of being out in the fresh air and having it diluted.
