Title: front brake feedback
Post by: arcsecond on May 31, 2007, 10:57:24 AM
So halfway through my commute this morning I come to a stoplight. As I'm coming to a final stop I get a little judder through the front brake lever like it's pushing back against my hand. Just twice and not too forceful, but it was quite unexpected as it's never done anything like that before.

As soon as I could I got off the road and checked the front brake disc: clean. The brake pads: good. The brake fluid through that little plastic window: looks good, but what do I know. Anything else I'm missing? Is this the first sign of a bigger problem? Is this just something that happens every now and then and I'm just worried for nothing?

My bike is a stock 2006 and about a year old with ~2500 miles.

Continuing on with my commute it didn't happen again, although I was riding a little more conservatively and relying on engine braking more than usual.

Thanks for any help in advance.

love bugs ?

seriousely, blame those little things, or whatever road crap kicked into the disk. it's pretty unusual but the harley guy at work had a candy wrapper smelted into his disk. you could just read 'payday' from what was left in the holes.

he said it 'was stopping weird' on the way into work.

Possible warped rotor or the pads could be worn down close to the backing.
Some people claim that organic pads can get hard with time.I don't know
about brake pad technology.I just buy good pads and change rotors as
nesassary.

The commute home that day was fine. No problems. For other reasons I drove the cage to work today. But everything seems fine so I may just ignore the incident.
